The sun never rises on the GROWTH network of telescopes! An international project exploring transient cosmic events. Led by @caltech, funded by @NSF PIRE
so excited to see our @GrowthPire@Caltech postdocs Ragnhild Lunnan and Nadia Blagorodnova (now @Stockholm_Uni and Nijmegen Uni respectively) win starting grants by @ERC_Research! Congratulations!

@ztfsurvey summer school (Aug 16-20) is now open for applications. This year we go virtual and the theme is variable stars. 5 days of hands-on interactive training in data processing of transient survey data with Python Jupyter notebooks. Apply at https://t.co/CDWDb3zjik
Looking for a PhD in time-domain astronomy? Excited to chase and study exotic transients? Our @GrowthPire partners in the UK (@LJMU_Astro) are offering an excellent opportunity for a curious budding astronomer! For details see https://t.co/kkhtsb2Jmg

Kritti Sharma, Kulan Deshmukh and Harsh Kumar from our @GrowthPire Indian partner institution @iitbombay received today a special mention and silver medals from the Astronomical Society of India for their work on discovery and confirmation of asteroids! Way to go!
Listen to our @GrowthPire Mansi Kasliwal who is the speaker for the upcoming popular Watson public lecture series at @Caltech. What do cosmic fireworks reveal about the universe? Register for the open webinar at https://t.co/qI8bM1eTDA

@GrowthPire has formed a relay of observatories to look continuously at a weird asteroid in the next 24 hours. Observing right now with Palomar and Mount Laguna, moving later to Lilin and GROWTH-India telescopes. Stay tuned for images.

The strength of @GrowthPire has always been its team - fantastic scientists and truly enthusiastic young researchers and students! Glad to have you on board, @samayanissanke
Such thorough & beautiful work led by @PMACaltech PhD student Shreya Anand & Coughlin et al. Proof of principle interpretation. Proud to be part of the @GrowthPire team, one of the most fun & incidentally inclusive, hard working & productive science collaborations that I know of!
A paper by @GrowthPire and @ztfsurvey collaborations published today in @NatureAstronomy provides clues about the still elusive search for light from the collision of a neutron star and a black hole. Read more at https://t.co/ifDSjDNHih

.@iitbombay students Kritti Sharma and Kunal Deshmukh discovered the closest known SUV-sized asteroid to fly past the Earth.
The big space rock, named 2020 QG, passed by the Earth on Aug 16, without having any impact on the planet. Great work students!👏

Thank you very much the Team GROWTH, @GrowthPire for providing such a wonderful opportunity to attend the GROWTH Online Astronomy School 2020. I learned a lot, time domain astrophysics - data analysis, image reduction, subtraction etc, from this school. #GROWTH#ASTRONOMY
What a fantastic group of students attended our @GrowthPire school online this week! Our participants created a truly vibrant atmosphere of discussion and mutual learning! The future of astronomy is in good hands:) Thanks to all attendees for all the fun!

Two days ago, the @ztfsurvey observed asteroid 2020 QG, which is roughly the size of an SUV, fly close enough to have its orbit significantly changed by the Earth's gravity. It's the closest known asteroid to fly by Earth without impacting the planet.

Today as part of the @GrowthPire Summer School I'll be participating in a remote live observations of astronomical sources using two astronomical optical telescopes in Sutherland South Africa and the two metre Liverpool John Moores telescope at the Canary Island of La Palma.
Getting ready for day 2 of our @GrowthPire school? We'll be diving deeper into image data reduction and photometry. Live sessions starting at the usual 3pm BST. #GROWTHschool20
