#Tigray Health Bureau Warns of Health System Collapse as Medicine Supply Remains Suspended

Mekelle, March 6, 2026 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) Tigray Health Bureau reports that the Tigray’s healthcare system is approaching collapse as the supply of medicines to Tigray remains suspended and shortages of fuel, medical equipment, and budget continue to affect health services.

Briefing journalists, head of Tigray Health Bureau, Dr. Amanuel Haile, states that the Federal Government of Ethiopia suspends the delivery of medicines to Tigray, a situation the bureau describes as unjustified and one that is already creating serious consequences for the population.

The bureau explains that disruptions in medicines, clinical inputs, and equipment, combined with fuel shortages and insufficient financial resources, severely weaken Tigray’s health infrastructure and limit the ability of facilities to provide regular services.

According to the bureau, medical supplies reach Tigray intermittently until December, but no medicines enter Tigray during January and February, placing the health system under emergency conditions. The health bureau indicates that the suspension of supplies places additional pressure on a fragile health sector that is still struggling to recover from extensive destruction suffered in recent years.

The bureau calls on the federal government to urgently restore the flow of medicines and essential resources. It also urges the international community and human rights organizations to recognize the seriousness of the situation and support efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and restoring critical health services in Tigray.
