Excited to share @RobersonLabUAB's preprint on AD risk gene BIN1 driving Tau-dependent network hyperexcitability. Thank you to @DayLabUAB and @LLMcMahonNeuro labs for an excellent collaboration!
@deniswirtz @WUSTL @UCLA@ucsdbe@Cornell@UW@Northeastern@Illinois_Alma@UABNews has switched to a “limited business model” to keep non-essential personnel (including most research personnel) at home. We are also dramatically reducing the sizes of research animal colonies to preserve food and minimize veterinary staff.

Not knowing a rare disease incidence is a huge problem for patient groups and drug developers.
@LalDennis + colleagues just produced an exceptionally valuable resource: prediction of the incidence of 101 monogenic neurodevelopmental disorders

Update. The Cleveland Clinic has developed a COVID 19 test that gives results in 8 hours as opposed to the 2-3 days it takes for the other tests.
They developed the test in NINE days, I repeat nine. Scientists worked 24/7 once the CDC gave them the okay on 3/2.

1/25 Part 1 - Why does soap work so well on the SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus and indeed most viruses? Because it is a self-assembled nanoparticle in which the weakest link is the lipid (fatty) bilayer. A two part thread about soap, viruses and supramolecular chemistry #COVID19
As a data scientist, am I the best statistician in my group?
Of course not.
But do I make damn sure the code I write is high quality?
No.
But do I work hard to understand the details of the application more deeply than anybody else on the team?
Also no.
The Sewell-Loftin Lab website is up and running! And we are looking to hire graduate students. Please help spread the word to help find recruits who are interested in how biomechanics affect tumor growth.

Another piece of the #Alzheimers puzzle is up on @biorxiv_neursci just in time to talk about at the @UABSOM Neurodegeneration Retreat tomorrow! Thanks to @tombrettlab for leading the way and for wanting to tag on a bit of #compchem!
Happy to share our latest pre-print, mapping the interaction between TREM2 and ApoE, and demonstrating sTREM2 can inhibit amyloid beta polymerization! Great work @dlkober . Enormous help from @RobersonLabUAB@HBDeanMSTP@JABLab3 !
