When information that is important to a thinking task disappears, it hinders learning because students have to both remember it & think about it at the same time, reducing WM available to analyze & remember.
Notes on how to adapt teaching in response:

We think that all memory is stored in the brain. But our study published today in @NatureComms shows that all cells—even kidney cells—can count, detect patterns, store memories, and do so similarly to brain cells. My first (co)corresponding author paper!🧵https://t.co/biaahYiPRW
I flipping love this assessment format.
✅matches the selective retrieval process they need to write paragraphs at all key stages
✅good at revealing patterns of weaker knowledge
✅they use some vocabulary without full paras
✅low floor high ceiling- they can show off
@HeyMissSmith Secondary school teachers have been using them for years. They are a key tool for formative assessment. Not a primary or secondary tool. A tool. Like all tools, they can be used well, they can be used poorly.
Behaviour in schools is the single biggest barrier to learning. A few years back @ianwhite21 produced an excellent thread on reframing positive behaviour with 20 ways to help manage behaviour in the classroom. I did 4 one pagers to highlight how good these methodologies are. They are available for download from my shared drive.

Been having a play with Diffit. Used it to create homework for Y7 geographers based on an article. It simplified text to an appropriate reading-age and comprehension questions were AI generated. It even formatted the sheet for me! Took all of 5 mins. #edutwitter
Off the back of the amazing key note by @HughesHaili at @researchEDSW I am now obsessed by the phrase 'Tacit Knowledge' and how we are losing it by the truckload because of poor teacher retention. Possible impact on 'Adaptive Expertise' loss as well? @SCottinghatt
@mrsjmasters I looked at the predictions from @MissEstruch. Energy transfers being one we’ve practiced. There is some good materials from AQA to support teacher marking of this essay with some sample essays. Got the students to mark them using mark schemes. Lead to interesting discussion.
