Was incredibly honoured to have @CricketAus ask to feature my story coaching & coordinating the ANU Cricket Club Juniors as part of #TheNextInnings project

[Cricket Australia @CricketAus]

You can't be what you can't see! ❤️

After suffering a severe injury while competing for the Australian Ultimate Frisbee Team, Holly Halford-Smith is focused on nurturing the next generation of @ANUCC Juniors!

Check in on your friends. Even the ones who seem fine. And especially the ones who don’t.

7 years ago and it still feels like yesterday.

I look at this photo and wish more than anything that I could go back & remind you how loved you were, Rach 🖤

I know firsthand how heavy #depression can be, how isolating suicidal thoughts feel, and how hard it is to ask for help.

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

I also know that having someone check in — really check in — can make a difference.

Supporting someone struggling isn’t easy, but them carrying the pain alone is even harder.

Your kindness, patience, and willingness to listen could save a life.

When one posts about #mentalhealth awareness but can’t handle someone actually struggling: Are you raising awareness or just raising your ego?

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

@Dr_Joe_McIntyre @ANU_Law @ANUasiapacific @PinkConcussions @CCMConcussions @Fordthought @AntonyHosking @cricketcomau Thanks @Dr_Joe_McIntyre. I too had been in a similar boat unfortunately!

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

Attempts to return to study (again) after an extended hiatus due to injury / health ➡️ ends up with another #concussion 2-wks into start of term.

Really bad luck or a sign from the universe?

Either way, I’m just here collecting mild TBIs like they are going out of fashion…🤕

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

@CricketACT Great effort from them all. And 4 wickets to Prisha’s name behind the stumps 🧤

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

@AmbMEKNeuhaus @Fordthought Congrats, Jo!

[Princess, The Tower @APainPrincess]

“The thing with #ChronicPain is that it is utterly exhausting. I’m not talking “a little bit tiring,” I’m talking the kind of tiredness that no amount of sleep seems to cure. The kind of tired which makes every single atom of your body ache and cry out.” https://t.co/Qpkuz6zE40

This moment.

Last month I set up a @gofundme for one of our ANU Cricket Club Juniors families who has been thru a traumatic time w A’ida bravely battling #braincancer

A’ida just started her 4th & final round of chemo

Please consider a #EOFY tax deductible donation 👉🏼 https://t.co/liDiQZAQHF

The irony - what humanity looks like 2023!

Rescue teams of a tourist submersible carrying 4 millionaire and 1 billionaire went missing during a dive to the wreck of the Titanic, and a rescue teams of a refugee boat carrying 800 poor people looking for a better life for their children.

The rich The poor

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

@skillacqlascu Great initiative ! Looking forward to listening in, @skillacqlascu 🙏🏽

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

@AntonyHosking Fancy ! Where are you visiting, @AntonyHosking ?

[Holly Halford-Smith @H_HalfordSmith]

Came out of retirement to have a whack 🏏

Not bad for an old fart who can’t throw or bowl anymore* and whose approach with the ball is to “stick the hands out and hope for the best”

*Yes, still on that self-imposed ban. Blame the cracked ribs & #chronicpain as always of course

[Cricket ACT @CricketACT]

We announced our 2022/23 Premier Cricket teams of the year at our Awards presentation last week.

Congratulations to all of our cricket community on a wonderful season.

Well done to the players below named in our Women's and Men's Teams of the Year 👏.

I have set up a fundraiser on behalf of one of our beautiful @anuccjuniors families who’ve been thru a traumatic past few months w/ 16yr old A’ida diagnosed w/ a rare form of #braincancer

Would be grateful for any help sharing the link or donating below

This young man celebrated the big ONE FIVE yesterday 🥳

Here’s to 4 years of loving this little snuggle bum & to the precious years we have to come 💙

Plenty to learn (on both the cricket & pain management side of things) but it has been well worth getting back into so far…

Who knows, maybe a return to #ultimatefrisbee 🥏 will be next on the cards !

First season back playing sport after 3 yrs (and 6 yrs since hanging up the #cricket kit) but I’ve got to say… I’m pretty chuffed!

The ANUCC women’s team went from bottom of the ladder last season to playing in the T20 semis this past weekend against the season premiers 👏🏼

I have had to manage the trade-off of returning to playing a sport that I love with the expectation that it will come at a cost - more regular pain flare ups (which is both physically, mentally and financially taxing to deal with).
