The next frontier for prevention of heart and vascular disease isn't targeting lipids. It's about blocking inflammation. These are some of the ongoing clinical trials @NatureMedicine

#Finerenone in #CKD without #DM : FIND-CKD Trial
📍Finerenone slowed CKD progression in non-diabetic CKD, reducing annual #eGFR decline vs placebo (−3.3 vs −4.0 mL/min/1.73m²/yr; P<0.001).
📍Finerenone ⬇️ kidney/CV events by 23% (HR 0.77, P=0.04), supporting cardiorenal protection beyond eGFR preservation.
📍HyperK+ was more common with finerenone (17.0% vs 13.3%), but treatment discontinuation remained low (1.5%).

🌍✨ A successful and inspiring #EACVI National Society Summit 2026 in Sofia, focused on workflow optimization, automation, standardization, multimodality imaging, and the transformative role of AI in cardiovascular imaging.
Over two days, more than 40 National Society representatives, together with cardiovascular imaging experts, EACVI leaders, and industry partners from across Europe, came together to discuss how we can improve cardiovascular imaging acquisition, reporting, education, research, and patient-centred care through collaboration and innovation.
A heartfelt thank you to the Bulgarian Society of Cardiology for their outstanding hospitality, and special appreciation to Prof Yotov, Prof Petrova, and Prof Bayraktarova for being such gracious hosts and for their commitment to advancing cardiovascular imaging.
We are also grateful to our industry partners for their engagement, support, and valuable contributions to the discussions on innovation, AI-enabled workflows, standardization, and the future of multimodality cardiovascular imaging. Collaboration between clinicians, scientists, and industry will be essential to translate innovation into better patient care.
As always, a special thank you to the EACVI team whose dedication, professionalism, and hard work behind the scenes made this meeting such a success. From planning and coordination to ensuring a seamless experience for all participants, your commitment is deeply appreciated and is fundamental to the continued success of EACVI initiatives.
The enthusiasm, expertise, and collaborative spirit demonstrated throughout the meeting reinforce the strength of our imaging community and the exciting future ahead.
Looking forward to translating these discussions into meaningful actions that will benefit patients worldwide.

I count 12 abstracts on GLP1s for cancer prevention at ASCO
All of them are observational, and it's clear a proper randomized trial is needed here – two things on that
1. Lilly and Novo are not currently interested in doing it (thanks to @theglpman for helping to figure this out)
2. The first randomized trial is planned (called INSPIRE, from the ECOG-ACRIN research group) – for primary and secondary prevention of breast cancer in 11,000 overweight (non-obese) women, with a 5 year follow-up
In HELIOS-B, vutrisiran slowed renal decline in ATTR-CM: fewer ≥40% eGFR drops vs placebo (12.7% vs 21.2%).
Benefits on CV outcomes were consistent across kidney function, even in advanced CKD.
Improves not just CV outcomes but has renal benefits🫀🧪

Vagal Nerve Stimulation in Patients With #HFrEF : The #ANTHEM-HFrEF Trial
Vagus nerve stimulation in HFrEF showed durable autonomic engagement and a strong safety profile, but failed to significantly reduce cardiovascular death or HF 🏥 (HR 0.84, P=0.115); improvements in symptoms and functional status were encouraging but remain hypothesis-generating.

Big progress vs cancer, folks.
The kind of event curves from randomized trials that we've not seen before for a couple of the most deadly cancers. Congrats to the oncology research community for getting these trial done. #ASCO26, @ASCO
Stem-Cell–Derived Biologic Ventricular Assist Tissue in Heart Failure (#BioVAT-HF)
In advanced HF, cardiac remuscularization with #BioVAT was associated with an increase in the target heart wall thickness, #LVEF, and QoL in a small early-stage study.
