Neuralink will start high-volume production of brain-computer interface devices and move to a streamlined, almost entirely automated surgical procedure in 2026.
Device threads will go through the dura, without the need to remove it. This is a big deal.
@elonmusk What a great team, working tirelessly to help humanity and change this world for the better... honoured to be a part of it.. so good to see Paul featured.. our first UK patient!
When I was first injured in 2003 at just 20 years old and full of dreams for the future, the senior consultant sat my parents and me down and delivered words that shattered our world: despite my youth, I would likely not live to see 52. I can still feel the weight of that moment—the devastation in my parents’ eyes, the sudden darkness that seemed to eclipse everything ahead.
That prognosis hung over us like a shadow for years, shaping how we lived, grieved, and hoped in quiet, limited ways.
But receiving the Neuralink N1 brain-computer interface has profoundly shifted something deep within me. We’re undeniably in the early days of this technology—it’s imperfect, experimental, and full of unknowns—but there’s an indescribable difference now. A spark of possibility that defies explanation. For the first time in a long while, I feel a genuine sense of forward momentum, not just survival, but true potential unfolding. It’s changed my mindset entirely, replacing resignation with wonder about what might come next—not just for me, but for others facing similar sentences.
This isn’t just about regaining control; it’s about reclaiming
Would like to say thank you to @elonmusk@djseo@neuralink@HarithAkram@WRMuirhead and everyone else involved with this technology. Words cannot truly express how profoundly this opportunity has affected @CheckCanopy and those of us who love him but he does a great job here
This is a major step forward in our mission to enable those with severe neurological conditions to regain independence and control through cutting-edge brain-computer interface technology. Stay tuned for further updates.
The trial's second site @NewcastleHosps with our partner Principal Investigator MR Akbar Hussain are also in the process of screening further patients.
@WRMuirhead and I are delighted to announce that we have now successfully completed surgery on three patients in the UK as part of the GB-PRIME study with @neuralink at @uclh. We will be proceeding with further planned surgeries in due course. @ucl@BRUKresearch@UCLIoN
NEURALINK announced today they implanted Telepathy in their first UK participant, Paul, who is paralyzed from motor neuron disease, at University College London Hospitals (UCLH). Hours post-surgery, Paul controlled a computer using only his thoughts.
The Neuralink ultra-thin threads were inserted by the R1 Robot led by neurosurgeons Chief Investigator Harith Akram (@HarithAkram) and Principal Investigator William Muirhead (@WRMuirhead), with Neuralink engineers and UCLH/UCL support facilities.
The first UK patient to receive a @neuralink implant used a computer just by using his thoughts hours after his surgery at UCLH.
Paul, who has motor neurone disease, joined the GB-PRIME study and is now exploring use of the technology in his daily life: https://t.co/MEU1HxYB79
Well this is a 1st! in a new episode of 2 Parkies in a Pod we chat with a member of the neuro surgery team performing DBS on me! @HarithAkram tells us about his personal motivations to help pwp, explains what to expect & tells me why I’m a complex case 👉🏼 https://t.co/4lsDaL0PXY
We are recruiting for a Clinical Fellow in Functional Neurosurgery at Queen Square. The Unit is a centre of excellence and is the busiest in the UK and one of the busiest worldwide. https://t.co/bh6hI0lBUG
