Really, @tom_watson?
Upon Lord Brittan’s death, you described him as “close to evil as any human being could get” - words used by Carl Beech when he met you!
You also refuse to apologise to me for your role in amplifying Beech’s false, heinous allegations.
That is insensitive.
Lady Diana Brittan asks an important question in today’s @Telegraph: if someone’s reputation is destroyed, their home searched, their career ended & their family subjected to years of anguish by malicious lies, why are they not recognised as a victim by the criminal justice system?
I welcome the @DavidLammy’s response to our joint letter, but the central question remains unanswered: will those falsely accused by people convicted of perverting the course of justice finally be recognised within the criminal justice system?
Until then, the forgotten victims remain forgotten.

@LNER Terrible 1st Class service on 11:57 Grantham–Lincoln today. Messy seat with rubbish left behind, no food service & after requesting drink I waited 15+ mins with nothing arriving. Had to knock on kitchen door to find staff on their phones. Other passengers equally frustrated
Tom Watson is on a leave of absence from @UKHouseofLords following the return of cancer.
He was diagnosed with non-aggressive prostate cancer in 2023.
I wish Watson & his loved ones every strength.
I was diagnosed myself & underwent treatment in 2019, so I know a little of what he might be going through.
Early screening for men at higher risk from the age of 45 could save an estimated 6,000 lives each year. Yet one man still dies from prostate cancer every hour. Which is why I am disappointed that the UK's National Screening Committee (predominantly women) has decided against mass, national screening for prostate cancer.
The case for action on men’s health is overwhelming. We need a national screening programme and a dedicated Minister for Men. The facts speak for themselves & they demand leadership.
• 84 men take their own lives every week
• 75% of all suicides are male
• One in four men lives with a mental illness
• One man dies from prostate cancer every hour.
There’s a strong case for a Minister for Men to address male-specific issues like mental health, suicide, cancers, & equality in family courts. Such an advocate would complement - not compete with - efforts for women’s rights, ensuring the best outcomes for all.
Do read my article for @ConHome where I outline why we need a Minister for Men: https://t.co/5Tokni18fM
Pleased to have arranged a powerful @thetimes exclusive interview with the family of Lord Bramall - D-Day veteran who became Head of the Army & falsely accused by Carl Beech.
They outline the lasting trauma & are co-signatories to a letter to @DavidLammy calling for reform.
Delighted to have organised an exclusive interview with Lady Diana Brittan for @thetimes.
Speaking to Fiona Hamilton, she reflects on the lasting impact of false allegations against Leon Brittan & why reform is still needed more than a decade on from Operation Midland.
Powerful words from Lady Diana Brittan in @thetimes.
Those falsely accused in Operation Midland are not recognised as victims & were not even told of Carl Beech’s release.
Those falsely accused must be viewed as victims in law!

On this day in 1953 Queen Elizabeth II launched the Royal Yacht Britannia at Clydeside.
She was used by the Royal Family for state visits & diplomatic missions for the next 45 years.
The yacht was instrumental in British commercial diplomacy, with estimates that it raised roughly £3 billion for the Treasury via trade deals & events between 1991 & 1995 alone. It also secured substantial, specific agreements, including £1.3 billion in trade deals during a single trip to India in 1993.
In one of life’s coincidences, during my time as Secretary of The British Pulp, Paper & Board Industry Federation (1974–1979), our Director General was Rear-Admiral John Adams—formerly the first executive commander of Britannia following her commissioning in 1954.
The yacht is now permanently berthed as an exhibition ship at Leith, Edinburgh.
I had the pleasure of visiting the yacht with friends in January 2022.
It’s 10 years since the @metpoliceuk said I would face ‘no further action’ following Carl Beech’s heinous lies.
I, & the loved ones of Beech’s victims (Lady Brittan, Nick Bramall & Lincoln Seligman), & Sir Richard Henriques & Howard Riddle - spoke with @evansma for @Telegraph.
Following the early release of Carl Beech, the Bramall family, Lady Brittan, the Sir Edward Heath Charity Foundation & I have written to @DavidLammy calling for a review of victim status so those targeted by perversions of justice are finally recognised in law.
This is rotten, salacious & a gross invasion of privacy.
It’s not journalism; it is voyeurism dressed up as public interest.
As someone supported by the @DailyMail & its journalists, I am deeply disappointed but not surprised. I am ashamed.
@guyadams@toryboypierce.
Peter Mandelson’s tawdry fingers reach across society, cultivated through wealthy, influential ‘friends’ - for his benefit alone. He should not be trusted, must be expelled from the @UKHouseofLords, & was a disgraceful choice as US ambassador by @Keir_Starmer.
As @TrevorPTweets said: “At best naïve & foolish; at worst greedy & duplicitous.”
While we all have the propensity to trust friends, Mandelson has once again shown poor judgement, & should never grace public office again.
Today I remember two people who shaped my life in very different ways: my dear, late brother Granville, & Margaret Thatcher.
On this day in 1976, Mrs Thatcher was dubbed “The Iron Lady” from Soviet paper Red Star after her bold speech on Communism.
Proud to say the iconic red dress she wore was made by Granville.
“I stand before you… the Iron Lady of the Western world.”
Nigel Farage once said MPs who defect must resign & face a by-election - or insult voters. That principle hasn’t changed. Only the convenience has.
You can’t blame @Conservatives for “breaking Britain” while recruiting those who you claim helped do it.
