A team led by Prof. Henrik Semb, #HelmholtzMunich, has uncovered how immature pancreatic cells decide whether to become insulin-producing beta cells or glucagon-producing alpha cells – a discovery that could transform #diabetes treatment and regenerative medicine.
🔑 The Key? Cell Polarity!
Their research shows that changes in apical-basal polarity influence whether cells become beta or alpha cells, which control our blood sugar levels. This insight could pave the way for advanced stem cell therapies for diabetes.
