Everybody needs to read Sanya by Oyin olugbile pick it up today✌️
I need everyone to read Sanya. I recently just did and whaaaaaaaaat?! It is so deserving.
I have not yet read any book like Sanya and this book is going to shape the trend of Nigerian, African literature in the coming years.
It is a book that has shown me what I should try to do with my own fiction. The way it retold the story of Sango, preserving culture but in a sophisticated and creative way and addressing so many themes at the same time.
I think that is what we should all strive to do with our works. There are so many important themes to write about, folktales to retell abbl and I’m so grateful that @heyitsoyin shared this with us, with the world.
Thank you for writing, ma❤️✨.

Yesterday @HeyItsOyin won the 2025 Nigeria Prize for Literature and I literally screamed for joy! Why?
1. The author is a woman.
2. The book reimagines Sango, the god of fire and thunder into a fearless FMC, cue Sanya.
3. I was there and saw it LIVE!
Such a well-deserved win🥹
In Sànyà, power comes with loss. War comes with sacrifice. And identity comes with risk.
Your story matters just as much as Sànyà’s.
She rose from tragedy, carried a dark prophecy, and faced a war that tore her world apart. Now, we want to hear from you, tell us what you loved about Sanya. Share in the comments or DM us. We set our deadline so we have time to collect every review and honour each journey.

Feminism is not about hating men. It is a collective sigh of grief for every girl who was told to be less, so a boy wouldn't feel like less.
Feminism is not wickedness. It is not misandry wrapped in grammar.
Feminism is simply a woman saying:
“I am human too.”
Human enough to deserve safety. Human enough to deserve voice. Human enough to breathe without permission.
Human enough to live without shrinking.
It is a daughter asking that her dreams matter as much as her brother’s. It is a wife asking to be seen, heard, felt, understood and respected. It is a mother asking that her labor be valued, not invisible. It is a woman asking not to die because someone thinks she is property.
Feminism is not the rejection of men. It is the rejection of harm.
It is not the declaration that men are the enemy. It is the declaration that pain is the enemy, and silence is its closest friend.
Feminism is not wickedness. It is not a rebellion against men, it is a rebellion against silence. It is the belief that empathy and justice can coexist, that love can be mutual, and that power doesn’t have to be domination.
