@gillian_baseri @psyc220 Yes! I think a lot of PSYC majors and people interested in PSYC understand this point, but besides that, there's not much being done about it
I would like to work with children with disabilities and break the gender ideologies within that field. Especially autism. Younger girls are diagnosed at later ages compared to boys and left to struggle because there hasn't been enough attention on that subject. @psyc220 #CD7
@GabrieleHersch1 @psyc220 Many people self-diagnose these days. I think some may do it for jokes like "Oh I have ADHD" but others are just too afraid to seek medical help. Both are big issues and create a sea of problems in the future whether it be hurting themselves or others. @psyc220 #CD7
@davitch_peyton @psyc220 Hi, I completely agree with you. I also believe men are sometimes raised to hide their emotions and that can become harmful for themselves and others in the future. @psyc220 #CD7
@JuliaDAgostino2 @psyc220 @psyc220 #220Ethics I definitely agree. He's trying to express fairness for American citizens by explaining their rights which everyone has. I think this could also relate to ethics of community because their is a sense of union w American citizens
@psyc220 #220Ethics I would say he's using ethics of community because he's trying to unify the Commonwealth with the Latinx community and encouraging the entire population that can, to vote.
We’re on the verge of a historic moment Virginia. We’re about to elect the Commonwealth’s first Latina member of Congress!
Make it a priority to grab 10 friends and go out and vote for @yestoyesli tomorrow! #VA07
@davitch_peyton @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 I think this example is one that not many would think about. A lot of the time, certain disabilities are focused on more because they can be "seen" while others that can't be are forgotten about. I know ODS tries their best to help everyone who needs it
@tylormcbride49 @psyc220 I think self satisfaction would be a good word to go with inspiration porn. The focus seems to rarely be on the person with a disability even though some try to make it seem that way. Overall, people without disabilities are still the focus and are just using others.
#CD5b @psyc220 Although this tweet is poking fun at inspiration porn, I think it explains it well. Where it says "non-disabled person cheering" and "inspirational message" shows how people without disabilities exploit those with disabilities to uplift and motivate themselves.
@ElliePsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD5a I never thought about how those who are deaf and/or blind would struggle across campus. I think JMU would be here to accommodate anyone if its brought up but unless it is brought up, it's not a high priority for them
#CD5a @psyc220 JMU campus can be hard to navigate for someone w/ a disability. There are a lot of stairs & hills, like if you need to go from main to east campus. I think JMU has tried their best to make everything as easy as possible but that's difficult to do completely.
#220IdealAffect Proud. Feeling proud of yourself or others that you care about is a positive emotion. I feel this emotion when I accomplish a hard task or when I see my loved ones doing well for themselves.
@sydn31 @psyc220 I completely agree with your thoughts on feminism. Although "fem" is in the word, it is expanding way larger than just feminine people. @psyc220 #CD4
@bripsyc220 @psyc220 Hi! I also thought about intersectional feminism and how it really pushed gender equality for all, not just women. Feminism began only supporting white women so it's nice to see that growth. @psyc220 #CD4
@psyc220 #CD4 People who have experienced gender-based oppression should stand together. It’s a very common type of oppression because gender is very common in our lives. There's strength in numbers and more people fighting, the more successful gender equality can be.
@smit28em @psyc220 It didn't even occur to me that immigrant workers would be used for "clean up" after the hurricane. When hurricanes hit, as a society, we like to say we're all coming together to help but the real/actually help (immigrant workers) dont get credit or rewards they deserve.
@psyc220 #CD3b I think this communicates migrant exploitation. As international immigration rises throughout the world, so does migrant exploitation. Many anti-immigration business owners limit job opportunities for migrants which is why they take up the harder/less wanted jobs
@mrdesouza12 @psyc220 You're absolutely right. I see it in my hometown a lot. People tend to bring in immigrants to pick the apples when its harvest season and being called an "apple picker" has become its own nasty stereotype because of immigrant working limitations
@Indiapsyc220 @psyc220 Yes, I didn't even think about it until I saw this tweet. It may not be the best tweet out there about this issue but it caught my attention and made me think more about immigrant work.
#220Creativity Creativity is important because it's a gateway for new ideas that can be used in different settings. It's also important because it allows for self-expression for some people. It makes things more exciting and less "in the box."
