@benne4al @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 I love this idea! Our justice system is so complex and need a humanistic perspective when dealing with these people. Psychology, if applied more in this area, could make a such a large scale difference in the system.
@sydn31 @psyc220 #CD7 @psyc220 This is such an important point. Our criminal justice system is already so flawed that it can be so easy to play into stereotypes and forget that everyone is human at the end of the day.
#CD7 @psyc220 An action that I could take at an individual role would be to see the person in a new perspective. Encourage treating them with respect and let them know that changing their life around is possible.(2/2)
#CD7 A future goal of mine is to work in the criminal justice system, which an area that heavily reinforces the cycle of oppression. The criminal justice system at an institutional level has a long history of systemic/institutionalized racism.(1/2) @psyc220
@ecdeboe @psyc220 #cd5b @psyc220 I totally agree that the language and connotation is very negative in this example. While i'm sure the intention was not malicious, it comes across as demeaning and discriminating.
@JordynCrane123 @psyc220 #cd5b @psyc220 This is so important to talk about now that social media is everywhere. Social media platforms like Tik Tok can make it so easy to exploit those with disabilities for views and money.
#CD5b @psyc220 This is an example of "inspiration porn" because it is exploits hobbies
as "inspirational" when they are doing activities that are very much ordinary to them and within their capability.
@Reagankidd10 @psyc220 #cd5a @psyc220 This is such a problem. It seems like this would be the first thing to address when trying limit barriers on campus, yet it is somehow still a problem.
@GabrieleHersch1 @psyc220 @psyc220 #cd5a I totally agree! The parking and access to elevators is so difficult to navigate and can be extremely frustrating.
#CD5a @psyc220 As a university, we create many barriers for those with disabilities especially involving transportation and accessibility to ICS buses. The ICS buses rarely have space and do not accommodate those who may not be able to fit tightly in a crowded bus.
#CD4 @psyc220 Feminism advocates for the equality of all genders and those who face gender discrimination. Gender based oppression has shaped everyone’s lived experiences, as gender identities exist in everyone and manifest in every encounter, whether we notice or not.
@pagdag220 @psyc220 #CD3a @psyc220 @pagdag220 This is so true. I talked about a similar concept and how frustrating it is when people who are privileged can't understand that their experiences with oppression aren't universal.
@nelltuckk @psyc220 #CD3a @psyc220 @nelltuckk Having this conversation is so frustrating. Encouraging them to educate themselves on the topic and look outside of their perspective is always a good idea.
@Katevonnii @psyc220 #CD3b @psyc220 @Katevonnii You did such a good job explaining the connection between race/ethnicity and national identity through the influx of immigrants.
@HottleAudrey @psyc220 @psyc220 Im so glad you shed light on this point, as I found this idea really relevant to the topic. I also tweeted about immigration relating to the hurricane.
#CD3b @psyc220 The post that I retweeted is based on the idea that people never want to leave their homes, but are rather trying to escape danger and stay safe. Our inferences about race/ethnicity & national identity involves our psychological tendency to make shortcuts.
#CD3a @psyc220 Not believing in racism is a narrow minded mentality. Of course people who don't experience oppression don't think it exists, because they are not the one's enduring it. Racism isn't always observable hate, as it can be deeply rooted in our laws and regulations.
@mdangelo529 @psyc220 #CD2a @psyc220 I like that you chose the religious belief ideology, as I feel like sometimes I forget how present it is in our world. Religion with political beliefs is really interesting as it can be so different, but also mean so much to how people view the world.
@Reagankidd10 @psyc220 #CD2a @psyc220 This is really interesting, as I agree that I don’t align with every single thing that the test states. It just proves how different everyone’s experiences can be and how important it is to understand that there is so much variation.
@GabrieleHersch1 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD2B This is such an interesting idea! Not only is it oppressive, but also really dangerous in critical group scenarios. I’m really eager to learn more about this and see how we can combat these prejudices.
