@zay_m07 @psyc220 @psyc220 @zay_m07 and at least if it cant stop social issues it can help bring awareness to them. that can help those conversations get started which is the first step.
@abbypsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 @abbypsyc220 yes! communication is key. having kids branch away from their parents is rough but having a space where they can talk will lead to some change. I believe that
@psyc220 I would get a handle on this by keeping an open line of communication. I'm a firm believer in the connection between communication and having conversations being in strong correlation to change.
#CD7 @psyc220 right now the corporate scene seems intriguing to me. working for big companies as a black woman can be a tough environment to get a handle on. not wanting to seem too aggressive is a stereotype that holds back lots of not just black women, but women in general
@Katevonnii @psyc220 @Katevonnii @psyc220 imagine being equally as qualified or even MORE qualified than your opponent. but instead, they get promoted all because their hair is straight and your hair is curly. or their light-skinned while you're dark-skinned. crazy.
@frankmrdukes @psyc220 @frankmrdukes @psyc220 I feel like people are too scared to talk about anti-Semitism. in reality, people make implicit biases about Jewish people all the time without even knowing it. biases may stop an opportunity for people which is why it needs to be talked about more.
#CD6 @psyc220 a privilege that is not mentioned is color. within some communities, darker skin tones are seen as more unworthy or ugly. outside, if a dark and light skin both do the same thing, the darker women may be seen as agressive while a lighter women may be seen as bold.
#CD5b @psyc220 I don't even notice some things that could be considered barriers. I saw a person tweet simply about the uneven ground on campus. this could be seen as a part of the social disability model. it isn't the person's condition but the environment.
@vansicjl @psyc220 @psyc220 @vansicjl this is what kind of said too. they are either forgotten until society need to use them to motivate some non-disabled group.
#CD5a @psyc220 people in society use people with disabilities to motivate people without them. As soon as motivation is seen as effective, or ineffective, people with disabilities are left out to dry again. how those people with disabilities may feel isn't even a thought.
@frankmrdukes @psyc220 @psyc220 @frankmrdukes right! feminism is a starting point for many to understand the discrimination against many groups of people.
#CD4 @psyc220 Movements like Feminism are meant to call attention to oppression. While the focus is ending the oppression against women, it also calls us to look at our systems and bring change. Looking into these systems may bring attention to other marganizaled groups as well
#creativity220 creativity opens the mind. I think when people are more creative, they can approach problems from a different perspective and offer new solutions.
@HottleAudrey @psyc220 @pscy220 @HottleAudrey I mentioned this too. I couldn't find the right tweet to retweet, but the gradual openness to want to use immigrants to do the "dirty work" of America if you will, but not give them basic human decency is astonishing to me.
#CD3b @psyc220 I didn't like any tweets that saw enough to retweet them. but, a common theme that took me back was the want to manipulate immigrants. people assume that just because they are immigrants they'll do any and all kinds of work. no matter how grueling or unfair.
@pagdag220 @psyc220 @psyc220 @pagdag220 this is why a lot of white people say that they "don't see color". but you have to see color in order to acknowledge the things that are happening in the country we call home to fix it and make it better for the future.
@Katevonnii @psyc220 @psyc220 @Katevonnii this is exactly it. racism has been in America for so long that you can't just look at the surface anymore. you've got to dig deeper into the systems and institutions put in place.
