@sydn31 @psyc220 #CD7 @psyc220 This a great goal! I think that it is important to recognize biases to prevent the issues we’ve seen in this line of work.
@gillian_baseri @psyc220 #CD7 @psyc220 I totally agree! A lot of people overlook how important it is to reinforce positivity when children are young. This helps to prevent negative biases in the future.
#CD7 @psyc220 I want to work as a school psychologist to help students feel included and have an open environment when they are at school. I want to have open discussions with students to combat any stigmas or bias their parents may have reinforced at home.
@ElliePsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 I agree! I think it’s really important to address these issues together especially because health care is difficult to afford in the US.
@BellaDilaura @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 I agree! This is not talked about enough with the intersectional role it plays in a lot of oppression including race, mental health, and many others.
@psyc220 #CD6 I chose to look into the intersection between classism and mental health because of the lack of access to mental health resources for those who cannot afford it. The lack of access makes mental health issues worse as it increases stress and other health problems.
@jdvick23 @psyc220 #220Ethics @psyc220 I agree this is a great example of ethic if community and voting is extremely important for representation. Voting can make or break certain groups in a community if they are underrepresented.
@psyc220 #220Ethics This is an example of ethic of community because she is speaking about the objective obligation for politicians to respect a woman’s right to choose as a sense of loyalty to this group. The implications of forcing a woman to have a child can be harmful.
Yes! It’s so out to touch to imply that abortion isn’t an economic issue.
Few things impact one’s finances more than a having a child! When a politician is trying to force you to have a baby in a country w/ 0 guaranteed healthcare or childcare, abortion is a HUGE economic issue.
@JordynCrane123 @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 This is a great example because it is so exploitative and they make it seem like they’re doing it for good reasons when it is usually for fame.
@4ngel4tr4n @psyc220 #cd5a @psyc220 I agree! It is an issue people overlook so much. Another problem are the bots because they create obstacles in walkways that can be hazards.
#CD5b @psyc220 This is an example of inspiration porn because it puts the idea in someone’s mind that those with disabilities are supposed to inspire. They are people and should not only been seen for their disability.
#CD5a @psyc220 JMU’s campus offers very few accessible areas for those with disabilities. There are many buildings that have stairs at most access points without ramps. This is an example of a barrier that can be removed by JMU according to the Society Model of Disability.
@4ngel4tr4n @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 I love how you discussed intersectionality and how feminism can also bring light to other social issues that are linked to systemic oppression, that is not only based on gender.
@sydn31 @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 I completely agree! I loved how you mentioned that feminism has no labels I think it’s great to recognize that this movement does not only recognize women in gender equality.
#CD4 @psyc220 Feminism means inclusivity and equality. Sexism and enforcement of gender roles can affect anyone. Feminism recognizes this and encourages people to share their experiences to help end oppression against women, and other sex and gender minorities.
@jdvick23 @psyc220 This definitely highlights the difference between race/ethnicity and it’s so heartbreaking how people can make assumptions about someone based on their race. #CD3b
@jmukate @psyc220 #CD3a I agree! The book also mentions how race is a social construct that is based on assumptions that lead to racist views of different groups.
#CD3b @psyc220 This tweet shows how race/ethnicity do not drive opinions on immigration and there is often a disconnect with how many groups view immigration and there are often assumptions made because of it. It is important to not place opinions on groups, instead listen.
#CD3a @psyc220 Many people think racism doesn’t exist anymore because they don’t experience and their privilege allows them to be blind to it. The book mentions it’s important to recognize the social and political manifestations of racism so we don’t ignore their implications
@psyc220 #CD2a I chose to look into the identity of gender. The survey I took looked into gender discrimination and harassment in the workplace. I got a high score, which indicates that there may be a pattern of sexism in workplaces that devalues women and other minority genders.
