Resisting the great deformation of Maldives.
Journo Shahuzan exposes a shocking reality inside Maldivian prisons. Authorities are commonly administering strong, unprescribed psychiatric drugs & sleeping pills just to control inmates, leaving many heavily sedated & deteriorating behind bars.

Dear @andersen_inger,
Did you know that Maldives Environment Minister @aleeshareef is destroying fragile mangrove ecosystems that protect the shorelines of our islands from Climate Hazards?
That too in a UNESCO Biosphere reserve!
He’s also doing this without the consent of the community, and by disregarding environmental safeguards!

Are @mvpeoplesmajlis members of "sound mind" as required by QA Article 73(a)(5)?
"The bill, submitted by Baarah MP and PNC Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader Ibrahim Shujau on behalf of the government on 20 October, was expedited and passed within a day."

What a lame and pathetic decision by @Hassaan_Mhmd to sign-off on the EIA, and an even more cowardly act by @aleeshareef to approve the project by hiding behind an unconstitutional regulation that overrides Article 23 of the Constitution guaranteeing the right to a safe, healthy, and ecologically well-balanced environment !
Your Decision Statement itself says that the criteria set by the @ERA_Maldives was not met in the EIA, and yet you give them 30 days to do these assessments AFTER commencing the project work.
What good would an assessment of endangered species do if they are buried under sand before the report is published (which let’s be honest it never will, and you won’t actually do anything about it).
Your legacy is forever tainted by the harm you wilfully do to our environment, and the loss we have had to endure because you try to hold on to positions of public trust that you clearly no longer have.

@ThimaaVeshiHQ And @ERA_Maldives have these charlatans certified, stamped and approved as "EIA consultants" because it's a network that lies at the foundational levels of ecological destruction and decimation nationwide.
EIA consultants are among the most corrosive elements killing Maldives.
In addition to not acknowledging our concerns in the EIA report, “Theorem International” also stole our aerial photograph of the reclaimed area of Fishimathi. They neither asked us for it nor gave any credit.
If the consultant went through our profile to find the photo, they definitely should have seen our posts regarding Fishimathi.
The attitude and lack of professionalism from these EIA consultants have been increasingly difficult to ignore.
From aggressively attacking and interrupting people during consultations to now straight up stealing the property of others, we must direct our attention to these firms that are facilitating ecocide and making bank from it.
@zooxter@MIHUDmv@presidencymv@MoEnvmv@MoHmv So that they can sell off the rest of the country as SEZs to the global rich, and these passing politicians will settle into those "mathee fanthi" enclaves & "gated communities" to live happily ever after when tenure ends with "inaayaiy"?
Really? @MMuizzu

“Housing crisis” is a political man-made crisis to centralize the Maldivian population to Male’ area at the cost of destroying our families, env, culture.

1/ Private investment of $800m into into the Maldives' first SEZ sustainable township, Project Ayla, by UAE-based BluRock is directly linked to Henley's golden visa programme to be launched in the upcoming weeks.
Minister @em_saeed at the groundbreaking ceremony of Project Ayla:
"In parallel with these initiatives, the government is working with Henley and Partners on the Maldives' Pearl Residency Program. Our residency by investment framework much like the pearl on a string that program connects large-scale investment and development with long-term residency supporting projects such as ISA and reinforcing our position as a stable and premium destination for global capital and talent"
Project Ayla will be 100% foreign owned.

Very good insights, I totally agree! The tourism sector is now contributing reef burial while reefs generate $1.5 billion from tourism sector! Also this is not land reclamation, as reclaiming is retrieving something lost. What we are doing is burying live coastal ecosystems!
We're mobilising against the planned land reclamation at Moolekede Fishimathi as a precursor to the planned World Environment Day activities.
It is our constitutional and moral duty to protect and preserve the environment, and we cannot let such short-sighted, politically-aligned, unsustainable, and overall destructive projects encroach onto our natural heritage and climate resilience.
We'll have canoeing and various other activities through which you can voice your views and demonstrate against this
destruction. We'll also be happy to answer any questions you may have about the project.
Come join us from 15:00 to 18:00 at Fishimathi.

Can someone ask @MMuizzu in the ongoing press conference for a response to this letter?
The EIA with significant errors and faults has also been approved and work is set to begin soon.
This is a very avoidable environmental disaster, it must come to the attention of the President.
It has been less than a month since reclamation was completed for an airport the island didn’t even need
Currently:
- The Harbour is black and full of dead fish
- The island’s famous Sikundi Kulhi mangrove is dying
The imperial core has gained $15 trillion through exorbitant privilege since 1970, getting higher returns on foreign assets than what they pay on foreign debt. This privilege is financed by transfers from the global South, outstripping aid flows many times over.
@psmnewsmv Unesco reserve status puts our ecosystems at increased risk of ecological degradation, loss and damage.
This is a very worrying situation.
This is what the government did to Addu Atoll Biosphere Reserve.
