China Sees Surge in Fever Patients, Beijing Children's Hospital Queues Over 1,000
Recently, many areas in China have seen a large number of fever patients, with hospitals overcrowded. Beijing Children's Hospital has long queues, with emergency department numbers exceeding 1,000 per day.
Videos circulating on Chinese social platforms show hospitals in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Wuhan, Sichuan, and other places packed with many fever patients, particularly an increase in children, some families even having multiple members infected. The official statement labels it an "influenza A" epidemic.
A lot of information on mainland social platforms reveals that many children have high fevers, leading to pneumonia, and even death.
On January 9th, the infusion room at the Emergency Department of Shanghai First People's Hospital Jinshan Branch was packed with patients of all ages, including the elderly, children, teenagers, and adults, with more than 800 people receiving infusions daily.

Shanghai Announces a Three-Year Ban on Live Poultry Trading, Concerns Raised by Epidemic Spread
At a time when China is simultaneously experiencing outbreaks of influenza and avian influenza, Shanghai has announced a three-year ban on live poultry trading, sparking concerns about the severity of the epidemic.
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported that since November 2024, China has found 23 cases of human infection with avian influenza, including subtypes such as H9N2 and H5N6.
Meanwhile, there has been a sharp increase in cases of influenza A (H1N1), with some children succumbing to severe encephalitis.
Shanghai has announced that starting from January 1, 2025, live poultry trading will be prohibited for three years.
Why ban live poultry trading? Does this indicate a higher risk of cross-species transmission and mutation of the current viruses?
What do you think?
