شاه إيران، 1979: محمد رضا بهلوي، أقرب حلفاء واشنطن في المنطقة. بنى جيشه بأسلحتهم، وفتح نفطه لاقتصادهم، وحارب معاركهم بالنيابة. وحين سقط؟ لم تصله حتى مكالمة هاتفية. تركوه يموت وحيداً في المنفى وهم يتفاوضون مع من أسقطه.
صدام حسين، التسعينيات: نفس الرجل الذي صافحه رامسفيلد عام 1983 وزوّدوه بالمعلومات الاستخباراتية في حربه مع إيران، هو نفسه من علّقوه لاحقاً أمام الكاميرات. أداة استُخدمت ثم رُميت.
حسني مبارك، 2011: ثلاثون عاماً من الولاء المطلق لواشنطن. حراسة كامب ديفيد، وتأمين قناة السويس، ومحاربة الإرهاب بالنيابة. وحين خرج الشارع؟ أوباما قال في خطاب علني، دون أدنى حياء، "يجب أن يرحل". لم يرحل ترامب ولا بايدن ولا أوباما. رحل مبارك وحيداً.
الأكراد، 2019: نفس الأكراد الذين قاتلوا داعش بدمائهم جنباً إلى جنب مع القوات الأمريكية. ترامب نفسه، نعم نفسه، سحب قواته بتغريدة، وتركهم تحت القصف التركي. لم يرفّ له جفن.
أفغانستان، 2021: عشرون عاماً من الوعود. ومليارات أُنفقت. والنتيجة؟ انسحاب فوضوي مُذل، وأفغان يتساقطون من أجنحة الطائرات وهم يتعلقون بأحلام خذلها من صنعها.
هل نحتاج إلى مزيد من الأدلة؟ هذه ليست نظرية مؤامرة. هذا تاريخ موثّق. أمريكا لا تخون حلفاءها، لأنها ببساطة لم تعتبرهم حلفاء يوماً. هم أدوات في رقعة شطرنج، تُحرَّك حين تنفع وتُزاح حين تنتهي صلاحيتها.
فلماذا راهنّا على نفس الحصان الخاسر؟
دعنا نكون صريحين: اتفاقيات أبراهام عام 2020 لم تكن مبادرة سلام بالمعنى الحقيقي. كانت صفقة مصالح تُقدَّم في غلاف دبلوماسي أنيق. طبّعنا مع إسرائيل، ليس لأن شعوبنا طالبت بذلك، ولا لأن القضية الفلسطينية حُلّت، بل لأن واشنطن أرادت ذلك. وقُدِّمت لنا وعود بطائرات F-35 واعتراف وشراكات.
وماذا حصل؟
إسرائيل ضمنت غطاءً عربياً لسياساتها. واشنطن ضمنت ولاءً خليجياً جديداً. ونحن؟ خسرنا مصداقيتنا أمام الشارع العربي، وأبعدنا أنفسنا عن جارنا الأقرب جغرافياً، إيران، لنتحالف مع دولتين تبعدان عنا آلاف الكيلومترات ولا تشاركاننا لا حدوداً ولا مياهاً ولا تاريخاً.
كان على وزارة الخارجية، كان على القيادة، أن تقرأ التاريخ قبل أن تقرأ نصوص الاتفاقيات.
الأسبوع الذي كشف كل شيء
لكن دعني أحدثك عما هو أشد إيلاماً من التاريخ البعيد. دعني أحدثك عن الأسبوع الذي سبق الضربات.
قبل أيام قليلة فقط من أن تشتعل سماؤنا، أقامت سفارة الإمارات في تل أبيب إفطاراً رمضانياً. إفطار رمضاني. في تل أبيب. في الوقت الذي كان أطفال غزة المسلمون يموتون تحت القصف الإسرائيلي، بلا خيام تؤويهم، بلا ماء، بلا طعام، بلا حتى كفن يُلفّون فيه. أطفال من دمنا وديننا وأمتنا، يُقتلون بأسلحة الدولة التي نجلس على موائدها نتقاسم التمر ونتبادل الابتسامات.
أي رسالة أرسلناها للعالم في تلك الليلة؟ أي رسالة أرسلناها لأهل غزة وهم يكسرون صيامهم، إن وجدوا ما يكسرونه به، تحت أنقاض بيوتهم؟
وكأن ذلك لم يكن كافياً، وقبل أيام فقط من الضربات، سافر وزير خارجية الإمارات إلى واشنطن، ونشر صوراً تجمعه بمسؤولين إسرائيليين تحت عنوان "مكافحة معاداة السامية". مكافحة معاداة السامية. بينما أطفال غزة لا يجدون حتى خيمة تحميهم من البرد. بينما المساجد تُقصف والمستشفيات تُدمَّر باسم "الدفاع عن النفس".
هذا ليس دبلوماسية. هذا انفصال تام عن واقع شعوبنا ومعاناتها.
كل قرار قاد إلى هنا
لم تأتِ هذه الضربات من فراغ. لم تسقط علينا من السماء بلا مقدمات. كل خطوة، كل قرار، كل صورة، كل إفطار، كل مصافحة، كانت لبنة في الجدار الذي حاصرنا اليوم.
حين اخترنا التطبيع تجاهلنا أن إسرائيل لا تريد سلاماً بل غطاءً. حين اخترنا الاصطفاف الكامل مع واشنطن تجاهلنا أن أمريكا لا ترى فينا شركاء بل أدوات. حين أقمنا الإفطار في تل أبيب تجاهلنا دماء إخوتنا في غزة. وحين ذهبنا نتحدث عن مكافحة معاداة السامية تجاهلنا أن هناك إبادة تحدث أمام أعين العالم.
كل قرار كان اختياراً. وكل اختيار كان يمكن أن يكون مختلفاً. وكل طريق مختلف كان يمكن أن يجنّبنا ما نحن فيه اليوم.
الجار قبل الحليف البعيد
مضيق هرمز لا يفصلنا عن واشنطن. يفصلنا عن طهران. والصاروخ لا يحتاج تأشيرة دخول ولا تصريحاً دبلوماسياً.
كان من واجب السيادة، لا من باب الضعف، أن نبني علاقة متوازنة مع إيران. ليس حباً في نظامها، ولا موافقة على سياساتها، بل لأن هذا هو منطق الجغرافيا الذي لا يتغير بتغيّر الرؤساء في البيت الأبيض.
ألمانيا وفرنسا حاربتا حربين عالميتين، وعدد قتلاهما بالملايين. واليوم؟ أقرب الشركاء. لأنهم أدركوا أن الجار يبقى والإمبراطوريات تذهب.
بدلاً من ذلك، اخترنا أن ندير ظهرنا لجيراننا ونقف في صف قوة عظمى عابرة تاريخياً، وها نحن اليوم ندفع ثمن هذا الخيار.
المليارات التي ذكرتها، نعم، فلنتحدث عنها
أنت تقول يا سيدي إن دول الخليج ساهمت بمليارات في مبادرات السلام وتسأل أين ذهبت. وأنا أقول: السؤال الأصح هو لماذا دُفعت أصلاً؟
هل دُفعت لبناء مدارس في فلسطين؟ لإعمار ما دمّرته الحروب في سوريا والعراق؟ أم دُفعت ثمناً لرضا واشنطن وتذكرة دخول إلى نادي المقبولين عند البيت الأبيض؟
حين تدفع المليارات لشراء الأمان من دولة باعت كل حليف سابق لها، فأنت لا تشتري أماناً. أنت تشتري تأجيلاً للأزمة. والأزمة وصلت اليوم.
إلى القيادة، بصدق وبلا مواربة
ترامب يتصرف كما تتصرف أي قوة عظمى: وفق مصالحها. لا يجوز أن نفاجأ بذلك. الذنب ليس ذنب الذئب الذي يفترس، بل ذنب الراعي الذي فتح الباب وغادر.
كان واجب قيادتنا أن تقرأ التاريخ، وأن تحفظ مسافة أمان بين التعاون والتبعية، وأن لا تضع كل بيضنا في سلة من يعترف علناً أنه يضع "أمريكا أولاً"، أي أننا بالضرورة لسنا حتى في المرتبة الثانية.
كان واجب وزارة الخارجية أن تبني جسوراً مع جيراننا قبل أن تبني أبراجاً مع حلفاء مؤقتين. وكان واجب القيادة أن تحمي شعبها من الانجرار إلى صراع صنعته قوى بعيدة لا يهمها من يدفع الثمن.
وأختم بما قاله كورش العظيم قبل أكثر من 2500 عام:
"لا أحد يستطيع أن يحكم بالعنف إلى الأبد. الحكم الحقيقي يُبنى على احترام الشعوب وعلى العدل وعلى حكمة من يعرف أن قوة الأمة ليست في أسلحتها، بل في حرية شعبها واستقلال قرارها."
سيادتنا لا تُحمى بصفقات سلاح ولا بتحالفات مع من يجلس على الطرف الآخر من الكوكب. سيادتنا تُحمى حين يكون قرارنا بيدنا، وحين نعرف أن الجغرافيا لا تتغير، لكن وعود الإمبراطوريات تتبخر كسراب في صحرائنا.
الشعوب لا تنسى من خذلها. والتاريخ لا يرحم من لم يتعلم منه.

Iran is better than the United States. The United States is worse than Iran.

This is true not because Iran is especially good, but because the United States is especially evil.

Iran isn’t blanketing a major metropolis with military explosives, killing over a thousand people including hundreds of children. The United States is doing this with its partner in crime Israel.

Iran isn’t continuously bombing and invading countries around the world, toppling governments, circling the globe with hundreds of military bases, targeting civilian populations with siege warfare and brandishing nuclear weapons at its enemies in the name of securing planetary domination. Only the United States is.

The US empire is the single most murderous and tyrannical power structure on earth, by an extremely massive margin. No one else comes anywhere remotely close. Not Iran. Not anybody. Every government in the world is morally superior to the most evil government, and the most evil government is the United States.

Whenever I say this I get US empire apologists going “We’re only the ones fighting the wars and dropping the bombs because we happen to be the ones with the power to do so!”

But that’s false. The US isn’t the world’s most vicious government because it happens to be the most powerful, it’s the most powerful government because it’s the most vicious. It’s the power structure which was willing to do whatever it takes to rule the world, no matter how profoundly evil.

Genocides. Starvation sanctions. Nuclear brinkmanship. Imperialist extraction. The deliberate creation of failed states and humanitarian catastrophes. Policies designed to keep entire regions in a continuous state of division and strife. The United States and the globe-spanning empire structured around it have inflicted depravities upon our species which cry out to the heavens for vengeance. If you could truly comprehend the scale of the suffering it has created over the years, even for a second, you would never stop screaming.

Another objection I’ll encounter when I make these observations is “Well, I’d rather live in the US than Iran!”

And it says so much about the western worldview that people think this is an argument. Sure it’s probably nicer to live in the United States than Iran, especially now, and certainly ever since the US has been deliberately strangling the Iranian economy with the explicitly stated goal of making its citizenry so miserable they wage a civil war against their government.

But it’s so revealing that westerners see someone saying Iran is better than the United States and think it’s a statement about where they personally would prefer to live, because it shows how completely invisible US warmongering is in their worldview. Washington’s acts of mass military slaughter simply do not count as immoral or abusive behavior in their eyes, because they are being inflicted on foreigners overseas. So they automatically assume the comparison is asking which country would make your feelings feel nicer to live in as an individual.

The fact that the US government happens to export the majority of its abusiveness to other countries outside its own borders doesn’t make it any less murderous and tyrannical, it just means the people bearing the brunt of its savagery happen to live in other places. Their lives don’t matter any less than American lives, and only a warped, American supremacist worldview would feel otherwise.

The US government is quantifiably morally inferior to the Iranian government. It is quantifiably more tyrannical, more murderous, more destructive, and more megalomaniacal. It is the very last power structure on earth that should have any say in who leads Iran and how the Iranians ought to conduct their affairs. It is not morally qualified to be making those decisions.

Let me translate: War is a nightmare. It’s pure pain and destruction, and the cost in human lives is staggering. Not to mention other livingbeings. However, it is only time humans actually learn anything is when they’re suffering. WWI was supposed to teach humans how much freedom matters; WWII was supposed to be their lesson in human rights.
​But the humans tend to forget quickly. When life gets ordinary, they stop paying attention. They let those lessons slip away, which basically means all those people died for nothing. To me, that’s even worse than the war itself, and it'll bring more wars until the next set of soon-to-be-forgotten lessons is learned.
