@Stephen_Neal@willguyatt@mssres HBS is not UHD - the entire World Cup production is 1080 HD HDR. Much like UEFA, FIFA appears to have reached the conclusion that UHD just isn’t worth it.
@CeeCurtley@willguyatt I think it’s definitely here to stay for pre-recorded series/movies via streaming services. For live sport, I’d have to agree that the future doesn’t look too bright…
@Oxford_Life@willguyatt@FIFAWorldCup The UCL matches on Ultimate have been upscaled HD HDR so not native 4K as they used to be. Don’t worry if you’ve never noticed though because very few people do… it just proves the general consensus that HDR is the key ingredient.
@Oxford_Life@willguyatt@FIFAWorldCup UHD is dead for a lot of sports and broadcasters. The Champions League has been 1080 HD HDR for a while now and I bet you never noticed. Most people notice the difference when HDR is added, not 4K/UHD. Sky Sports pretty much the only regular UHD output natively now.
@JamesHopkin@willguyatt It’s nothing to do with the US broadcaster as an external company is acting as host broadcaster. You will see more 1080 HDR productions going forward as the expense of UHD/4K HDR is seen as offering no value or return vs a HD picture. Most people agree that HDR is key not 4K.
Nipped to the local to book a table for the England World Cup opener. They usually close at 9.30 on a Weds and have decided not to open late. Can’t guarantee it pays. The game, folks, has well and truly gone.
@macstreams@scottygb Wait until you realise that the tournament is being produced in 1080p HDR and that any broadcaster showing it in ‘4K’ is just showing an upscaled HD HDR picture…
@DavidEmmz@omgsidewalks Further to this, I don’t see many people inside the remaining bank we have locally and the one in city centre seems extremely quiet whenever I walk past. Perhaps the footfall would say that closing should be at lunchtime… or maybe close entirely.
@robbopalmer@EE Recently got £300 compensation from EE when they prematurely ended my service after I gave 30 day notice. Worst customer service I’ve ever received. Virgin Media are a very close second though.
@DeusFoxy@DailyMail Most people aren’t remotely aware or bothered of existing BB maintenance as it’s carried out in the early hours. Most people are fast asleep. And maintenance is not required very often. But I can guess already that you’ll attempt to spin it anyway.
@DeusFoxy@DailyMail Engineering work is planned to keep things in good order. Very different to an outage. So, yes, very true and original point stands.
