The Irish Hawking Club was reformed in 1967, & led the effort to have #Falconry inscribed by @UNESCO on national list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The sucess of Peregrine Falcon conservation inspired efforts to save endangered birds like the #CalifornianCondor ! @HAWhiteK
Not the easiest of listens, but this week's Bird Flu episode deserves your attention! Niall, Steve, & Brian speak knowledgeably and empathetically about the impact of avian flu on our seabirds, a disease which needs more focus from those in government! 🔗 https://t.co/ugkgopApnn
Wonderful news!! Ospreys breeding again in Ireland for the first time in 200 years.

One of my favourite things about Kestrel cam over the past three years has been watching the co-parental relationship between both male & female all through the incubation period - even if the male sometimes doesn’t quite fit on all the eggs!
We know that roads (esp major roads) pose a serious threat to Barn Owls but this is the first time we have recorded an entire brood killed on roads, 3 chicks ringed at a Cork nest in July 2020, all subsequently found dead on roads, the most recent on the M8 motorway this month
Great to chat to Matt Smith, @rayofoghlu and @ManchanMagan of @hometree__ for yesterday's @TheSundayIndo about its marvellously ambitious Atlantic Rainforest project.

This is a fascinating and extensive exhibition charting the ancient and mutually beneficial relationship between man and raptor. There will also be a falconry display taking place on Saturday 13th as part of @HeritageWeek. @UNESCOEU@iaf_falconry@IrishRaptorSG @DeptCulturelRL
Lithuania has driven home how ravaged the Irish countryside is. Skies here noisy with larks, martins, swifts. So much richness everywhere - yellowhammers, redstarts, marsh harriers, lapwings, etc. Lots of space for nature through agricultural land. What I'm not seeing? Livestock.
NEW PODCAST COMING SOON. A peregrine and a snipe battle it out in Hilary A. White's essay 'The falcon and the bog' published in The Dublin Review NUMBER 84 | AUTUMN 2021 #podcast#essay@HAWhiteK
