UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT MOVES SEIZED SILK ROAD BITCOIN AND SENDS CRYPTO TWITTER INTO A WILDLY UNNECESSARY PANIC

Approximately $2 billion worth of Bitcoin, previously seized by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with the Silk Road marketplace, has been transferred to a new wallet. This movement involves Bitcoin linked to James Zhong, who was convicted in 2022 of wire fraud for illegally obtaining cryptocurrency from Silk Road. Initially, a small test transaction of 0.001 Bitcoin was sent to a Coinbase Prime address from a wallet associated with the DOJ. Following this, a larger transaction of 30,174 BTC, valued around $2 billion at the time, was made to a new address. This large amount of Bitcoin was part of the holdings seized from Zhong, who had stolen over 50,000 BTC from Silk Road in 2012. U.S. authorities discovered the stolen Bitcoin in 2021 during a raid on Zhong's property, finding hard wallets hidden in unconventional places, including one in a popcorn tin covered by blankets.
