@LaurenG68654208 I have also seen it on prac! It's an activity that gets the students so excited. No matter the task, the results seem to display a lot of critical thinking and fantastic responses.
To encourage critical thinking about sustainability in the classroom, I will introduce activities using DeBono's thinking hats. Students will be given a statement about sustainability to debate whilst wearing their hats to explore the pros and cons of environmental choices #SDG12
@Sue58196607 Yes exactly. The idea I had in mind was to sell the created products to community members for a very low cost and use the returns to continue making self sufficiency within the school (E.g. putting it into the garden).
My students will be working on goal 12.5 - reducing waste through prevention and recycling and 12.7 - promote public sustainable practices. Our project will focus on up-cycling old products and creating reusable products and sharing them with the community. #SDG12
@Sue58196607 This was exactly where I was aiming to go with a school garden Sue! What better way to eliminate waste and be self-sufficient than to use the garden goods to feed students or other members of the community
As #SDG12 focuses on increasing resource efficiency, a school garden is an incredible thing to implement into schools when aiming to teach students about self-sufficient lifestyles! #SDG12#Educ4750#UoNteach
Wouldn't this be an amazing way to explore self-sufficient ecosystems with our students?! We should endeavor to make our school's gardens as self sufficent and #sustainable as possible #SDG12#UoNTeach#Educ4750
The food sector accounts for 30 per cent of the world’s energy consumption. Did you know you can reduce your foodprint by a quarter just by cutting down on red meats. It's time to look at how much you're consuming. #SDG12#Educ4750 https://t.co/PnEta7zmkC
@Charlot30046473 I know people who have used this kidshelpline and have said it made a world of difference. Especially in lower socioeconomics area, sometimes access to psychologists and counsellors can be difficult. This is a tool that can make children feel safe and supported.
@Charlot30046473 Poor diets, researchers say, play a role in worsening mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression. If lessons are dedicated to teaching students positive dietary habits, students will be healthier in the body and mind and therefore contribute more to learning.
@Charlot30046473 Unfortunately the topics dealt with by Healthy Harold are ones often not addressed by parents home. That's why without Healthy Harold, kids would be greatly uneducated in regards to wellbeing. I think It's such a crucial program in schools!
@Charlot30046473 We can never underestimate the importance of #crunchandsip. The way the fruit and veg energises the kids is not only beneficial for obvious nutrition issues, but for their brain and the way they are able to learn for the rest of the day. Every school worldwide needs this!
It's true that a lot of the time we don't realise how something so small, can have such large impacts on the environment e.g. 2500 litres of water go into making one beef patty. This video will discuss how responsible consumption and production can make all the difference #SDG12
An impactful video that discusses how #foodwaste also means waste of water, energy and land.
Through the implementation of innovative solutions, responsible production and consumption and techniques such as composting/recycling we can make a big difference! #SDG12#UoNTeach
What an excellent sustainable challenge for the classroom and the community. This will encourage people to make small, everyday changes to the way they live and help them see what a positive influence they can have on the envrionment. #SDG12#Educ4750
It really makes us question if the free plastic bag ban was enough. perhaps the 15c bags was not a big enough incentive to stop the plastic use. Maybe we need to look at a complete ban. Alternatively, they could only sell the green bags in grocery stores? #SDG12#Educ4750
Such a useful resource here. Before delving into sustainable development activities, children need to be introduced to the topic. This is a great way to create a foundation of knowledge that will help students become better creators of sustainability strategies later on. #SDG12
@MissE_Educ This is a great video @MissE_Educ. This could be easily used in a classroom to start the topic on #SDG12. I recently found this video that could be shared in the classroom https://t.co/4DYnSkx0VW. I would use this as a starting point for a #STEM#sustainabilty project.
Below is a video of how to make DIY bees wax wraps - the perfect reusable alternative to plastic food wrapping. This is a great tutorial to introduce as a textiles task in class!https://t.co/iVcjkuuUJD

The Australian solar schools program is granting up to $50,000 to install commercial-sized solar systems with no out-of-pocket costs! What an excellent way to cut down energy use in your school! Please take a look! https://t.co/y6a4yJenKK
#SDG12#Educ4750
Absolutely Jessica. Whilst eliminating the need for plastic altogether would be preferable, it can be quite unrealistic. There will always be plastic materials just lying around which is why I'll definitely be introducing the #plasticchallenge into my classroom. #SDG12#Educ4750
#Plasticchallenge https://t.co/FZuBtS8IUT
This is both a #classroom and #homelearning resource. What a great way to find solutions to reducing plastic waste, and to use this challenge as an at home assessment task. Students can involve the whole family. #sdg12#globaled#EDUC4750
@mccarter_chad 1 great way to encourage the switch is to educate people on the implications that will arise if we DON'T make the switch (e.g where will we be in 10, 50, 100 years?). When you can see that your switch will completely save the planet from a terrible fate, it's easy to empathise!
It is necessary to each young generations the importance of correctly recycling and disposing rubbish. All schools should have a landfill bin, recycling bin, and compost bin on the playground the encourage proper disposal. What do you think? #SDG12
If people worldwide switched to energy efficient lightbulbs, the world would save $157 billion annually. If these small steps make all the difference, it's important to spread this education. There are plenty of helpful posters to put in your classroom! #SDG12#Educ4750
