@RColerlc@HollyBullardFL That’s like responding to concerns about federal tax cuts increasing the deficit by saying “you can always mail the IRS extra money.” Technically true, but it doesn’t address the policy question.
@ZBelair711@AdamJ33610704@willsworldview Yes, that’s all consistent with the title of the report, which is the coroners finding of the cause of death. Floyd wasn’t injured physically, but the compression of his neck restricted air and bloodflow and led to cardiac arrest. Nothing you are saying refutes his findings.
The people are overwhelmingly stupid.
Here's a harsh reality check for you folk, especially you so-called "conservatives" that are now for socialism:
Florida's Budget Stabilization Fund is currently burning money and - at its current rates - will be completely depleted in just 30 months even if property taxes remain. And that's CURRENT rates, let alone the extra money that they're going to be spending.
It's written right in the state's Constitution that if they ever deplete it, they have to replenish it, by law.
Know how that happens? VAT taxes, 99 cent "delivery surcharge fees" on packages from Amazon or anywhere else you get something shipped from, utility delivery fees, and every other kind of tax (short of an income tax, that would require a 60% vote) you can imagine. Vehicle registration fees, toll road prices, state tuition hikes, professional licensing fees. Oh, and let's not forget wildly increasing your STAMP TAXES, among the highest you'll find anywhere. Think it's unfair you're paying $7,000 in doc stamp taxes now? Wait till it's $15,000.
Know what else happens at the municipal level? Millage fees, excise taxes to support schools and police, increased sales taxes, communications services taxes, special assessments, LBTRs, having to pay a subscription fee for private fire service or else risk your house burning down, etc. etc. They'll tax you to walk on a sidewalk if they can. You people apparently don't understand
Know what you can currently write off up to $40,000 per year on on your taxes? PROPERTY TAXES.
Know what you CAN'T write off? ALL OF THAT OTHER STUFF I JUST LISTED.
Know who gets especially screwed? Renters and commercial properties. Know who will raise their prices to make up them getting screwed? EVERYBODY IN THOSE COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES.
I have no doubt this stupid measure will pass, because people always think they should pay less and force someone else to pay their share - especially in a state like Florida, which built its entire economy around charging visitors to fund the state (by the way, those people aren't coming in big numbers anymore, in case you haven't noticed).
I also have no doubt that, when you finally feel the effects of the socialism you're now for, you're going to be screaming how unfair it all is, but you will have voted for it.
Y'all dumb. SO DUMB. You're screwing yourselves just to help Boomers that have been screwing you your whole lives, and don't even realize it.
@GovRonDeSantis doesn't care, he'll be out the door. It'll be the responsibility of Governor-Definitely-Not-Jay-Collins to figure it out when, instead of 30 months, the fund is depleted in 26.
@Gr8ter_is_He@PolybiusChamp@EsotericCD Counterintuitively, sales taxes are some of the most regressive taxes you can make. They tax lower-income individuals far more than higher-income individuals.
@DavidHorrocks20@mattyglesias Actually, yes. If it meant slashing taxes elsewhere (such as sales tax, which is actually very regressive) it would be a way to stimulate the economy, especially for lower income individuals.
@LabsandPlanes@sirbetterled@JeffreyBrandes@Juarez_Brock@RonDeSantis The issue is that you can’t prove that. We haven’t had enough time to prove that all that will happen is “woke” stuff will get cut, especially when you’re proposing a sweeping change across the entire state.
Also, if its happening at your local government, you can vote them out.
@ClayWilkinson9@ThisThatOther2@LondonRiverSFW You’re assuming all taxes are bad, which is not true.
Taxes are necessary for a functioning society, and property taxes specifically are some of the least regressive (especially compared to sales taxes).
