I sincerely thank you all for the overwhelming gesture of love in contributing towards my court penalties. I know you did this because you relate with my principles, work, and commitments. You never asked if I had the money or not, you simply showed up in solidarity. Even when you learnt that the initial target had been reached, you just continued sending money, and you are still sending!
I didn’t have to explain much that, although I’m aggrieved too, this case is not really about me. Some of you intervened in defence of freedoms and protection of this space for accountability. Some did it in defiance against the powerful that pee on those below.
The contributions included amounts as small as 4000/-, and from across the spectrum. Both opposition and NRM people showed up. Even ministers reached out with concern. Different tribes. Different religions and nationalities. From Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, USA, Finland, UK, Sweden, Canada, Germany, Kazakstan, UAE, Brazil, … It has surely been a statement beyond me. Some just stood up for principles, some for religious reasons, some in memory of injustices they’ve themselves faced in the past and still.
This country has very many good people, and we could build on those to do much more good. The evil ones are few and have no REAL friends to count on. Neither are they really happy. They live in fear for the harm they’ve caused to others. Thanks to @kiizaeron and @AAgather for spearheading the campaign even before I asked, though I surely desired it to be a collective experience and statement. Thanks Hon. @HEBobiwine for passionately amplifying the call. Thanks everyone. I can’t name you all, but I saw you, and felt you. I must add that ever since this case started, I have never spent a single penny of mine. Well wishers, fans, and friends have carried me on their shoulders all through - and very happily. It is not me they carry though, it is the cause. Thank you.
The Phaneroo people landed on my Tweet castigating the other lady who claimed their pastor healed an HIV/AIDS patient and now my mentions are blowing up with Bible verses.
People need to appreciate that there is a fundamental risk of tweeting such stuff. In the 90s when the HIV/AIDS scourge was ravaging the population, one of the problems Ministry of Health fought against was Pastors & traditional healers who constantly claimed they cured the disease.
Many people lost their lives because they believed they’d been cured by their pastors and therefore they went off medication. To this day, we lose people simply because they replace taking meds with prayer and fasting.
It’s very dangerous to create the impression that your pastor cured a patient because what you’re communicating to other patients is that they don’t need to take medication, they just need to locate your pastor.
Therein lies the problem.
If you’re an HIV/AIDS patient, it’s okay to have your pastor lay hands on you but please, do not under any circumstances stop taking medication.
As of now, there is no known cure for HIV/AIDS. However, the virus can be fully managed through medication, lifestyle change & discipline. Short of that, you’re at risk of the disease spreading through the body & wiping out immunity hence leading to death.
Phaneroo people & their pastor are going to undo decades of hardwork put in by many people to teach the population about how to manage HIV/AIDS.
Believe in your God, worship him, hold hands and sing Kumbaya, but please do not spread falsehoods about HIV/AIDs. It is still a dangerous disease & must be treated as such.
The official fundraising campaign begins on Monday. However, do not drink your contribution over the weekend. Send mobile money via to +256 776 462727 (MTN) in the name of Agather Atuhaire. Reason: SPIRE. Together, we cannot stop @kiuvarsity from weaponizing the @JudiciaryUG to silence and detain @SpireJim over a UGX.30m “contempt of Court” award. SEND THE MONEY 👇🏿
Dr. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo @SpireJim has spent years using his voice and talents to hold power accountable as his contribution towards a better society for us all.
Instead of honoring his work, the regime is actively working to silence him through, among other oppressive tactics. A court order was recently issued against him, by which he is required to pay a total of UGX 30,000,000/= within 14 days or spend three months in prison. Why? Because he made a post on his social media platform calling out an injustice that, in the court's wisdom, amounts to contempt.
I am calling on all Ugandans of good conscience, in Uganda and abroad, to stand with Dr. Spire in whatever way we can, and help him resolve this challenge.
@adam_kungu@NamaraDennisMP I wish you could also bring in Hon Barnabas Tinkasimire in that very show, but as a surprise to that Namara guy, boom, he will run from the set
Happiest Birthday, Ndugu @eddie_mutwe . Yet again, you mark this special day behind prison walls not because you committed a crime, but because you stood courageously for truth, justice, and the people. Your resilience continues to inspire. Wishing you strength, hope, and freedom. #FreeEddieMutwe
@nextradio_ug@norbertmao Of late, the Hon Odonga Otto (double OO) has become famous for yapping about each and every topic in town, he's slowly turning into a Tiktoker, competing with Hon Mugaati gwa Bata
@blazadeno@skaheru@UG_Airlines@tebsbalis@UgandaCAA I won't use the same tone, but if you've ever used any aircraft to travel, the cockpit visuals aren't for everyone, I don't think the communique is as direct as he's suggesting, so where did this originate from. An aircraft is not like a "MATATU" where you see everything
@skaheru@UG_Airlines@tebsbalis You think you are helping, but it's a very big safety issue, and you can not know the extent of the damage, you seem to have a lot of details
