So Chicago Public Schools has a guide for teachers urging them to use AI, apparently drafted with some help from AI for Education. Is there magic thinking a-plenty in it? Reader, don't you already know? Let's count the ways...

972 days ago, Proctorio sued me for sharing links to 7 unlisted YouTube videos. Due to my tweets, they theorize, students learned how their AI surveillance software works. Students have a right to know. It's in the public interest. Our future depends on us knowing how AIs work.
According to messages shared in Twitter Slack, Twitter’s CISO, chief privacy office, and chief compliance officer all resigned last night.
An employee says it will be up to engineers to “self-certify compliance with FTC requirements and other laws.”
Folks in #HCI studying social support, health, wellbeing, online communities: I’m putting together a follow list to help us get coordinated:
1️⃣Please comment or DM with your mastodon handle if you’d like!
2️⃣I’ll cc some folks here to seed this, but plz RT! 🧠😵💫
If you're trying to decide on a Mastodon instance to join, this tool will tell you which instances some of the people you follow on Twitter (or who follow you) are on - or the instances the people you've blocked are on! https://t.co/T2Ihp8nCog
If you have a background in robotics and a passion for deploying systems in real world environments, consider applying to attend graduate school @UNLComputing@nimbus_lab to work with us. We have currently funded projects with trips scheduled to Alaska and Costa Rica next summer

In 2006 LiveJournal was acquired by someone new then deleted a bunch of content & made policy changes that made lots of users feel unwelcome. Then a mass exodus & within a few years was basically a dead platform for some communities. 👀 https://t.co/TZGrBjh7cl
“There is a myth that non-disabled people are independent and disabled people are dependent. We are all interdependent. Many of you like drinking coffee, very few of you grow your own beans” … from a great opening keynote at #assets2022 by @HabenGirma

An incredible amount of AI hype — across government, AVs, education, medicine, etc. — is based on misleading comparisons between humans and algorithms that overstate the promises and understate the risks of automation.
Applying to a CS PhD? You should be aware of graduate application support programs!!
These programs give applicants informal feedback (on statements, etc) from current PhD students before formally applying. Fairly new, but amazing stuff.
I'm tracking them below:
