@SenBillCassidy appreciate you standing up for this -- as you say, reasoned approach, but trump is foolhardy to cleave off huge swaths of folks before even understanding what they do
@generativist i like to think that at least traditional gambling (should be) understandable to most people. i think people don't understand crypto in a way that makes it even stupider. it's like NFTs, which were and are the stupidest thing i ever had to listen to someone talk about
@mattyglesias the real question is -- does elon not understand that he's making a dumb leap, or does he understand and is using database jargon to sow conspiracies? my guess is the latter, but who knows i guess
@JAldrichPL@TaliaRinger to @TaliaRinger's point, a big part of the problem is the abruptness. as this sorts out, i could imagine grants specifically budgeting for lightbulbs and rent on office space and pencils. it'd be dumb, butโฆ
@bluegeorge9@krismicinski@minilek canโt wait to have to start individually budgeting for each light bulb in my office, and assuming I have time to do any research, the hours of time of some poor admin to calculate all that
@GaryMarcus I think itโs very generous to assume his single goal is โcutting costsโ, sure seems to be doing it in ways that match his personal vendettas, which is never the best way to make decisions
@ramprasad_c except, dems elected moderates who mostly did regular moderate things, republicans not only went full on electing the far right, they are apparently okay with Trump acting like a king in trying to do those far right things. very different
@HogheadJBone@GaryMarcus dumb take, many conservative doctors, everyone loves medical research, even the people butthurt over pronouns didnโt vote for defunding medical research
