Promoting #OpenScience at @UCLCrimeScience | Bi-weekly discussion groups & peer mentoring sessions on open science practices | Account run by @Sandy_Research
We are @JDI_Open and host #OpenScience talks at the Department of Security and Crime Science @ucl. At these sessions students and staff at the department can learn about open science and discuss ways to implement open science practices in their research.
Workshop 3:
Preregistration of Secondary Data Analysis
In this hands-on workshop, Dr Marjan Bakker (Tilburg University) will discuss the what, why, when, and how of preregistration of secondary data analysis
2-4pm (GMT) Thursday 30 March
https://t.co/KJnoxLCpzc
Three workshops on Transparency and Reproducibility in Research are coming up, run by UCL's Office of the Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation and Global Engagement) - dates are 14, 23, 30 March (details in ๐งต)
Workshop 2:
The Benefits of Teaching with Open Data
An interactive workshop to give you an understanding of the uses and limitations of open data in teaching and research
2-4pm (GMT) Thursday 23 March

The last JDI Open session of 2022: how to confront uncertainties that arise during data analysis. https://t.co/f2sEYUETHu shows that even given the same data and analysis instructions, different researchers will arrive at different results, and the variation is hard to explain.
In our next session (29th Nov) we will talk about applying open science principles to systematic reviews. This will cover several stages of the process, including registered protocols, documenting each stage of the process, and available open access software for screening.
Next week's session (1st Nov) will provide an introduction to UCL's electronic research notebook (ERN), a (probably) under-used resource. The ERN facilitates the documentation and standardisation of data collection and analysis procedures, and links with the UCL data repository.
Join us next Tuesday 18 October for a practical and theoretical introduction to p-curve analysis, as always open to all students and staff at @UCL - see our website https://t.co/7CCUYMtyZc for details.
We are back and start this term with an open science master class, discussing the basics of pre-registration, open code/data/access publishing. We welcome all students and staff at @UCL. Find more information here: https://t.co/7CCUYMtyZc

The UCL #OpenScience conference 2021 starts on Monday! There is still time to get your FREE ticket! Bookings close 12noon Monday so we can make sure links get out to everyone in time. Come and join us for a jam-packed programme! https://t.co/dCY0Euqsyg @ucylpay@UCLLibraries
Are you a student/staff member at @UCL and would like to attend our sessions? Please send us a DM and we can add you to our mailing list to receive invitations. #openscience@UCLopenscience
On 27.4. were are back with a session on 'Conducting mini meta-analyses'. A recording and the slides will be available shortly after the session on our website: https://t.co/7CCUYMt19E #openscience@UCLopenscience@UCLCrimeScience
Our next session takes place on 26.1. @prestevez will run a tutorial in which you will learn how to develop your own R packages. Also recommended for python users. See your invite email (later today) for details.

A-priori power analyses are used to justify sample sizes. However, resource restrictions (usually also) affect how many observations one can collect. That's ok but there are some things to consider. Read @lakens new pre-print: https://t.co/GtRIiHc6ox
Do you have an idea for @eResearch_UCL community-based initiatives which will increase research software /data skills, foster interdisciplinary research or strengthen the community's positive attributes?
