Turning to AI safety, Huang noted: “One of the most important areas of safety that doesn’t get enough airtime is functional safety, which is really about building AI that works according to your specifications.

"AI is like raising a human that works to your specification, and it’s just not that easy being a parent,” he continued. “The technology necessary to ensure AI functions according to its desired characteristics needs to ensure there isn’t failure, and, if there is failure, there is safe failure. That entire field of engineering related to AI is in its early stages, and it deserves a lot more energy and attention.”

The public energy, the regulatory, the government energy that is being put into safety is extremely important, he added.
