Just pubbed: Our new study shows similar muscular gains with agonist-antagonist supersets vs traditional sets; supersets finished training sessions in 36% less time. Take home: Supersets can be an efficient strategy for those time-pressed https://t.co/KI2wgmtZtc
After ACL injury, females experience greater changes in muscle fiber cross section area but comparable strength loss to males.

What is the most important training variable for maximizing mitochondrial adaptations – Intensity or volume of exercise?
This topic has been heavily discussed in the cross-talk in @JPhysiol coined #TheMitochondrialContentContest. We analysed this in our meta of 425 studies 🧵
A paradigm shift in the understanding of running-related injuries? Most overuse injuries develop suddenly , not gradually. 😲

Hot off the press!!! Published results from our double blind RCT on BFR after an ACL reconstruction. We found BFR no more effective than standard rehabilitation in improving quadriceps strength, morphology, or physiology @MSSEonline. https://t.co/zQOsZtgQ7S
New review where we discuss whether resistance training (RT) helps or hinders performance in speed and endurance sports?
We discuss how certain RT adaptations might boost but also impair performance!

Does one biopsy cut it? Short answer: no. Find out the longer answer below 🧵👇
This thread is based on our new @japplphysiol paper, where we investigated human muscle fiber type composition variability by analyzing repeated biopsies. Lots of them.

Short periods of inactivity can be disastrous for muscle health, particularly in older adults.
These “disuse events” happen with illness, injury, or hospitalisation.
But what we do around these events can minimise the harmful effects on muscle and physical function:
- Maximising reserves before disuse
- Slowing losses during disuse
- Restoring losses after disuse
Resistance training is a cornerstone strategy across each stage to protect against muscle loss with inactivity.
