@hpmcd1 My hot take (lived in London 2022-2025 and now in NYC): London is more pleasant in just about every facet but the labor market. US salaries for many jobs are ~2x London’s. Also, London weather is excellent - basically fall year round (and much less rain than Americans think)
They all praised him as an editor and person. He was so touched and proud of those notes that he texted me “this is what I lived for.” And he meant that. He cared so much about his job and the people he worked with and I so happy he got to hear all those kind words before he died
NEW: We are facing a growing crisis of economically and socially dislocated young adults
The share of young people who are:
- Not working
- Not seeking work
- Not in education, and
- Not raising children
is approaching 10% in the UK and US, and has doubled in the UK in a decade
Neil King was an extraordinarily talented journalist. Working alongside him was the privilege of a lifetime.
But his time after leaving a newsroom left me even more awestruck — by his courage, clarity and beautiful writing.

@paulwsj is one of the real heroes of Evan’s release. Nobody has worked harder and more diligently from day one to see him freed. Congrats and thanks to him. #WelcomeHomeEvan
Burst into tears when this push alert landed. I don't have the words.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this moment happen. Every post, share, button worn and event hosted/attended mattered.

I continue to be in awe of my incredible @WSJ colleagues and our collective support for my friend Evan Gershkovich. He's now going through a sham trial in Russia just for being a journalist.
#IStandWithEvan#FreeEvan
We are outraged that Evan is being subjected to this sham trial based on a resoundingly false accusation. Evan is a beloved son, brother, friend, colleague and gifted journalist. He should be free. It cannot happen soon enough. #IStandWithEvan @WSJ
Today, Dow Jones CEO and Wall Street Journal Publisher Almar Latour and Wall Street Journal Editor in Chief Emma Tucker released the below statement on @WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich.

It's been 14 months since Evan Gershkovich was arrested in Russia for doing his job as a WSJ reporter
It's beyond time to end this nightmare
Bring back Evan
