Yesterday, I was so proud to see Liverpool at its very best as taxi drivers from across our city and beyond came together to give more than 250 children in care an unforgettable day out at Southport Pleasureland.
Seeing the cabs, brilliantly dressed for the occasion, set off from my constituency was a reminder of the incredible generosity and spirit that defines our city.
A huge thank you to Bernie Buxton, who founded this remarkable event 43 years ago, and to his army of volunteers who make it all possible. Year after year, they create memories that will stay with these children and their families for a lifetime.
This is Liverpool.
Looking after each other. ❤️💙

Trump has been having a hypomanic episode the past 2 hours. Post after post after post. I count about 60 of them - mostly images, many of them AI. All his trademark pathologies; all his underlying themes: Malice. Grievance. Division. Entitlement.
His gut is a simmering stew of agitation, rage, and desperation. His disordered brain is filled with paranoid fantasies of revenge alongside fantastical visions of regaining his grandiosity.
He hates being trapped and stuck in Iran. He hates that Epstein won't go away. He hates being told his speech at the dinner was inappropriate. He hates that his name needed to come off a building. He hates that musical artists canceled from his show. He hates losing in court. And he especially hates his own mortality.
Neither you nor I can EVER feel the kind of frenzied fear and fanaticism that Trump feels now. This is a man, who knows he's in his final chapter, who is confounded that he, all that he is, all that he ever said he was, his lifetime of secrets and lies and false constructs - is vulnerable to exposure.
How can he possibly sit still? How can he sleep? Who can he trust?
Malignant narcissists in decline always get worse, it's always messy, and they never want to go down alone.
I watched Trump’s speech at the Correspondents’ Dinner last night.
It’s hard to articulate how sad it made me.
Sad and embarrassed and exhausted.
Here is the thing about a man who is a joke. He can’t tell one.
People think humor is a talent. It isn’t. It’s a capacity. To make someone laugh you have to be able to laugh at yourself, and to laugh at yourself you have to step outside of yourself and see what everyone else sees. For one second you have to be just another person in the room.
Most people can do this by the time they are nine years old.
He has never once managed it. Not in fifty years of cameras. Not for a second.
That is not a quirk. It is a symptom. The muscle that lets you tell a joke is the same one that lets you feel what another person feels. A man who cannot survive being laughed at cannot imagine being anyone but himself. He will only ever be generous when it is photographed. He will only ever be kind when it is filmed.
There is a name for it.
So he stood up there and did what he always does. He hit down. He made jokes about people’s weight. He made jokes about their intelligence. He made jokes about how women look. He read out the names of people he doesn’t like, and mocked them. Always mocking. And when no one laughed he blamed his speech writers.
The cruelty dressed as humor has worn so thin.
And for the 30% of you still in the cult who will inevitably call me a crackhead and blame it all on my Dad, all I can say is please, for the love of God, open your eyes. Wake the fuck up. Have some dignity. Have some pride.
Joe Biden wasn’t standing at that podium last night. Donald Trump was.
And at the end of it he put on a red hat that said Trump 2028 and told the room he was running again. No one laughed because everyone knows he has no intention of leaving.
Just another joke at our expense.

MAJOR INCIDENT | We are appealing for information following a fatal collision in Huyton where four people have sadly died earlier this morning (Friday 24 July).
Just before 2am we received a report that a black Seat Cupra had come off the road after colliding with a lamppost on Liverpool Road after travelling from Liverpool towards Knowsley.
Emergency services attended but two men aged 23 and two other men aged 24 and 26 were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Due to the seriousness of this incident and the size of the collision area, there are significant road closures in place which will impact local residents, businesses and visitors to and through this area.
A restriction on drone use is also in place.

I've always said i would welcome Labour when they do the right thing, and today's business relief for venues and pubs is a welcome respite for an industry at the heart of our communities.
Well done The Daily Mail! 👏
Burnham must be held to account for the failures of his regime so far.
His removal of VAT from electricity bills has already come far too late & could’ve been done yesterday.
If he hasn’t solved the cost of living crisis by Friday then he must go!
😡
I’m v happy to criticise Burnham. But to those criticising his wife’s dress/body shape - fuck right off. I don’t recall any such criticism of Philip May or Hugh O’Leary, so take your misogyny and shove it up your arse

I spoke to a bloke who said he identifies as a Supermarket. He said he has always wanted to be a Supermarket. I asked him how long had this been going on? He said ever since he was Lidl.
Keir Starmer rightly receives a standing ovation from the entire House as he bids farewell to Parliament.
He will go down as a genuinely honourable public servant, and one of the most unfairly maligned leaders in modern British politics.
He became a target of a new wave of politics driven by hostility, misinformation and propaganda, designed not to strengthen democracy, but to erode trust in it, whose goal is to concentrate power into the hands of those with the greatest wealth, resources and influence.
