🚨 Tesla just added 28 Robotaxis in Texas in one shot!

@JoBhakdi breaks down the latest DMV data:

→ 19 new Model Ys
→ 9 new Cybercabs
→ 476 total registered vehicles
→ 67 Cybercabs

That puts the Cybercab fleet roughly 50% above launch-day levels.

The next milestone to watch? 100 Cybercabs!

But there’s still an important caveat: registered doesn’t always mean actively serving riders, and street trackers still show a smaller number in operation.

And hanging over all of this is the NHTSA audit.

So the fleet is clearly growing. The bigger question now is whether regulation can keep up with the ramp.

@SDembraski I've been using FSD for 99% of all driving since it was first released in 2021. Started with Chill and ran voice nav (so I could better anticipate maneuvers in advance) until I gained confidence, then switched to Standard.

@JSeyff The "no dealer" thing is the best part! Last time I bought a legacy auto, it took like 2 hours to pick up the card and I had carpal tunnel syndrom from signing so many carbon copy documents. Card salesmen will soon be a historical artifact.

@teslaownersSV I'm 72 with bad eyes. Without FSD Supervised, I would have turned in my license a couple of years ago. Instead, I'll be trading in my 2020 Model 3 so I'm ready for V15 and another 20-30 years of indepencence!

🚨 This could be a really important shift for Tesla’s robotaxi plans!

@CernBasher points out that NHTSA seems to be moving toward a simple idea: judge autonomous cars by how safely they perform, not by whether they use LIDAR, mirrors, pedals, or other old-school design requirements.

That’s a big deal!

If a robotaxi can prove it’s safe, the tech stack matters less.

NHTSA is already looking at rule changes around displays, brakes, windshield systems, and more, while building a broader national AV framework.

For Tesla, that kind of performance-based regulation could make the path to scaling robotaxis a lot cleaner.
