🏛️ Heritage betrayed!
Premier Lesufi claims Gauteng’s heritage sites are a “priority” yet the Women’s Living Heritage Monument, built at a cost of R280 million, remains closed, neglected, and decaying.
🚫 Paint peeling off
🚫 Precinct unkept
🚫 Public denied access
🚫 Statues of our liberation heroines left to deteriorate
This monument should be a place of pride during Heritage Month, teaching our children about Rahima Moosa, Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph & Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, while supporting jobs and small businesses.
Instead, it stands as a white elephant – another symbol of ANC failure and disregard for our heritage.
The DA demands that this monument be opened immediately and maintained as a site of learning, pride, and opportunity.

Street trees are an ideal way to make green space more accessible for those who may not be able to travel to get to their nearest park or forest 🌳🌲
Local residents who rely on street trees for their greenery will also have the advantage of mental and physical health benefits and cleaner air!
🚱 50-year-old reservoir leaves Johannesburg residents at risk
Today, we inspected the Alexander Park Reservoir in Malvern, Kensington – a crumbling 50-year-old facility now undergoing refurbishment.
👉 The upgrade will take 12 months, raising fears of supply interruptions and low water pressure.
👉 Johannesburg has 2,500 km of pipes needing replacement.
👉 At the current budget, only 80 km per year are replaced – it would take 30 years to fix the backlog!
💧 Families should not have to live with uncertainty over whether water will flow from their taps.
The DA is calling for urgent investment in infrastructure and a proper plan to speed up water upgrades across Johannesburg and Gauteng. Strong infrastructure = reliable services for all.

💸 R2.2 Billion with No Oversight!
Since 2019, the Gauteng Department of Education has poured R2.2 billion into the ANC-linked Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership and Governance (MGSLG) – without any oversight on how taxpayers’ money is spent.
⚠️ MEC Chiloane shockingly admitted that his department does not monitor or control how MGSLG spends public funds. This is a direct violation of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
Instead of accountability, ANC cadre deployment runs rampant, with the board stacked with politically connected individuals.
The DA will formally request the Public Protector to investigate this shocking abuse of public money. Gauteng residents deserve transparency, accountability, and value for their contributions – not a gravy train for ANC insiders.

⚠️ 14,000 Biopsy Samples Delayed – Patients’ Lives at Risk
During my oversight visit to the Johannesburg pathology lab at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, I confirmed that over 14,000 biopsy samples are stuck in a backlog.
➡️ Doctors can’t make timely diagnoses.
➡️ Cancer patients wait months for urgent results.
➡️ 4,000 new samples are added every month.
This is a crisis. Patients cannot afford to wait while their lives hang in the balance.
The DA is calling for:
✔️ Urgent use of private labs to clear the backlog.
✔️ Immediate replacement of pathologists who have left.
✔️ Efficient training of registrars to fast-track results.
The DA will monitor this crisis closely. Cancer patients deserve urgent answers, not delays.

🚨 R12.5 MILLION sports facility left to rot in KwaThema, Ekurhuleni
Today, Madeleine Hicklin MPL and Cllr Precious Jacobs visited the so-called Kwa Thema Sporting facility. What should have been a place for young people to play, train, and grow has been abandoned — now overrun by drugs and alcohol.
👉 Built at a cost of R12.5 million, this facility stands as a monument to ANC and EFF coalition failure in Ekurhuleni. While our country faces an economic and youth unemployment crisis, resources that should uplift our communities are wasted.
South Africa deserves better. The DA has a turbocharged plan to fix the economy, create jobs, and restore opportunities so that facilities like this serve their true purpose — empowering our youth.
📍 KwaThema residents deserve more than broken promises.

🚔 Joburg Inner-City Left at Mercy of Criminals!
Premier Lesufi has failed to deliver on his promises to resource our police stations. At Johannesburg Central SAPS, officers are battling:
❌ No motorbikes to cut through traffic congestion.
❌ Patrol vehicles in poor condition.
❌ No Special Terrain Vehicles (STVs) to fight illegal mining and infrastructure theft.
👉 This failure means police cannot respond quickly to crime, businesses face collapse, and investors are driven away.
The DA demands clear timelines, a proper budget, and a real plan to equip SAPS with the tools they need.
A DA-led Gauteng government would:
✅ Deploy motorbikes & STVs immediately.
✅ Train officers with the right protective gear.
✅ Establish ongoing performance checks to ensure results.
Promises don’t fight crime. Action does. ✊

⚡ Alexandra Substation left wide open to crime & decay
Today, the DA inspected the Alexandra Substation a critical site supplying electricity to Alexandra, River Park, Lombardy East/West and Rembrandt Park. What we found is shocking:
❌ Broken gates & fences.
❌ No security presence.
❌ Illegal dumping on-site.
❌ Infrastructure left exposed to vandalism & cable theft.
This is not just neglect it’s a direct threat to residents’ safety, livelihoods, and our economy.
Infrastructure like this must be secured and maintained. A DA-led Gauteng government would:
✔ Ringfence budgets for infrastructure protection.
✔ Involve SAPS, CPFs, and communities in safeguarding assets.
✔ Enforce accountability on City Power & responsible departments.
We cannot grow jobs and opportunities while government allows our infrastructure to rot.

💸 R4.5 million wasted!
A brand-new depot in Edenvale West lies locked & decaying, while workers are forced into cramped, unhygienic conditions.

🚨 Child Pregnancy Crisis in Gauteng
23,691 teenage pregnancies were recorded in Gauteng last year.
⚠️ 521 babies born to girls aged 10–14.
⚠️ Over 23,000 babies born to girls aged 15–19.
⚠️ Yet only 242 statutory rape cases were reported to SAPS in 2024.
This is statutory rape — but perpetrators are walking free because cases are underreported, concealed, or delayed by DNA backlogs. Families are left vulnerable, and young girls pay the highest price.
The DA demands urgent action:
✔️ Empower health & social workers to report statutory rape cases to SAPS.
✔️ End the culture of silence, bribery, and concealment.
✔️ Protect young girls by ensuring justice and accountability.
No child should be robbed of her future.
We will not rest until Gauteng’s children are safe.

🚨 Corruption Must Fall
Authorities have arrested Hangwani Maumela, alleged kingpin in a syndicate accused of defrauding the state of more than R326 million.
This is the same individual linked to fishy Tembisa Hospital contracts that whistle-blower Babita Deokaran tried to stop before her murder.
❌ R326 million stolen from services meant for patients.
❌ Corruption that robs residents of dignity and healthcare.
The DA will keep pushing for:
✔️ Full criminal charges.
✔️ Asset forfeiture of stolen money.
✔️ Justice for Babita and protection of whistle-blowers.
The people of Gauteng deserve leaders who protect patients, not tenderpreneurs.

🌍 DA Launches Heritage Month Campaign
Today, the DA in Gauteng launched its Heritage Month Campaign at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto — a historic site now left to decay through government neglect.
Walter Sisulu Square, valued at R160 million, should be a hub of economic growth, tourism, and pride. Instead, they are plagued by crime, vandalism, and poor maintenance — costing residents jobs and opportunities.
The DA’s campaign did the following :
✅ Reassed the site’s condition since the 2021 unrest.
✅ Engaged businesses & residents affected by crime and neglect.
✅ Push for urgent action to preserve heritage and create jobs.
Preserving our heritage is about more than history — it’s about building a proud, prosperous, and inclusive Gauteng for all.

💔 “This is heartbreaking.” – Joseph Parker, Kliptown resident
A building meant to serve the people of Kliptown has been left to rot — vandalised, neglected, and abandoned while millions of rands are wasted.
👉 Police watch daily but nothing is done.
👉 Communities are left with crime, broken infrastructure, and no jobs.
👉 Young people finish school but have no opportunities, forcing them into hopelessness.
As Joseph says: “It breaks my heart when I look back to when there was law and order. Today, nobody cares anymore. There’s no discipline, no work, and no future for our kids.”
The DA stands with residents like Joseph who demand dignity, jobs, and safe communities. Gauteng cannot continue under leadership that wastes money while people live in despair.
It’s time for change.

Today, we opened another park in Sicelo, our second one in the area.
Since the beginning of our term, we have developed at least 16 parks across the municipality.
I've always been passionate about creating safe recreational spaces that people of all ages can enjoy.
And it warmed my heart to see the young ones take to it with excitement.

🚨 Lesufi Says Crime Isn’t His Problem – But Gauteng Residents Suffer Daily
In today’s sitting, DA Gauteng Leader Solly Msimanga MPL challenged Premier Lesufi directly:
👉 Stop hiding behind excuses.
👉 Push for devolution of policing powers from national to provincial.
👉 Empower Gauteng to hire more police, buy more vehicles, and fix broken stations.
Premier Lesufi says fighting crime is “not his mandate” — yet Gauteng residents continue to live in fear. The DA believes real leadership means taking responsibility, not passing the buck.
We will not stop fighting for a safer Gauteng.

🚨 Justice Delayed = Justice Denied!
Nearly 140 000 DNA and toxicology cases are trapped in South Africa’s forensic backlog. Some families have waited over 17 years for results.
💸 More than R600 million has already been wasted on the still-unfinished Johannesburg forensic lab.
⚖️ This failure leaves criminals unpunished, grieving families without closure, and victims without justice.
The DA demands urgent action:
✅ Complete the forensic lab.
✅ Clear the backlog with private-sector help.
✅ Hold government accountable for wasted funds.
📢 South Africans deserve justice, not endless waiting!
