This role has not changed, and the Parole Board will continue to determine if someone is safe to release, and are already in the process of seeking to review all cases via remote telephone or video hearings or an intensive paper review. 4/4

The Parole Board is responsible for carrying out risk assessments on prisoners to determine whether they can be safely released into the community. 3/4

Prisoners whose release is a Parole Board decision are not eligible for this emergency scheme as the new scheme is specifically designed for low risk individuals nearing the end of their automatic release point. 2/4

Following the announcement by the Ministry of Justice about the early release of prisoners with two months or less left on their sentence, we would like to clarify how this will affect the Parole Board. 1/4

Since the cancellation of face to face hearings on 23 March our new taskforce has converted 130 oral hearings to a remote video or telephone hearing so far.

Our daily regime includes showers and time outside. Essential workers keep the kitchen, laundry and canteen running. All prisoners will have a TV (at no charge) and prisoner reps on each wing are helping to keep information flowing. Its difficult, but we are getting there.

BREAKING: BBC News understands HMP Birmingham is being permanently brought back into public ownership. The jail has been operated by G4S since 2011 and had 7 more years of the contract to run. Prison Service has been managing the jail since last August after a damning inspection.
