Coach Leach used to say “all sacks are on the quarterback.”
As a player, that used to piss me off — because we all know that's not true. Sometimes the protection breaks down, a back misses a chip, or a tackle gets beat.
But looking back, it was great coaching!
It was about ownership and improving the situation.
If you’re a quarterback and you view every sack as being on YOU, you’ll look for ways to improve it:
-Change the play call.
-Adjust the protection.
-Check the ball down.
-Scramble.
-Throw it away.
But if you shrug it off as “the O-line’s fault,” you give your power away.
You can only improve when THEY do — and that keeps you stagnant.
The same principle applies in other area’s for QB’s.
A receiver drops a ball?
-Take ownership. Ask yourself: Did I have the right pace? Was it a good location? Was it the right read? Did I spend time with him after practice working that route?
A missed signal?
-Take ownership. Did I communicate it clearly? Did I hold an extra signal meeting?
When you take this mindset — “it’s on me” — you stay focused on how you can grow, not on who you can blame.
Now, bring that into your own field.
What are the “sacks” in your business, career, or relationships that you can start taking ownership of today?
Because ownership always leads to improvement — and excuses always lead to stagnation.

A wise coach once said, "If you have to beg them to play, you will have to beg them to stay." You don't beg a Wolfe to hunt... The Standard is the standard.
“When you start building a program and build your foundation in toughness, that’s not an easy thing to do. It’s one thing to say, it’s another to live it every single day. Toughness isn’t about fighting people. Toughness is a mental aspect to the way you approach every day,” Brent Key

"The US could learn a lot from our locker room... You walk in that locker room you've got guys of different races, backgrounds, religions, and you've got a team that loves each other."

When I started coaching football in the mid 90s, I seem to remember it was pretty simple.
Start football two weeks before your first game. Hand out the playbook, give the kids their jersey, and make sure you had enough footballs for practice.
Now in 2025 you have a couple months of summer ball, two camera angles to capture and upload to hudl, drone film, digital playbooks, hand out all the practice gear, schedule scrimmages, set up your TeamSnap, make sure Final forms is complete, set up your new email address, plan and execute your football retreat, get the team shirt printed, host parent practice, media day, team picture day, make sure your security badge works with the gym door, call your field vendor to get the field patched and fixed, hand out white jerseys, gray jerseys, red jerseys, finish your first aid and CPR, finish all your state required hours of training, and the list goes on.
Man I miss the early 90s…haha!
"Violence matters in this sport."
The X's and O's are important, but at the end of the day, violence is mandatory.
Brute strength, hard hitting, and physically dominating the opponent (between the whistles) is a "must have" to win championships in this game.
“Dang you a WR coach, why you keep posting blocking videos??” Because I prepare kids for college. All WR’s in college can run routes and catch footballs. What will separate you!!!! #WRU
