@jeff_foust 1/ I'm going to take a moment on this one, because this argument is ... wrong. During the Augustine Commission we had an actual study done. The argument is wrong because in a multiple launch architecture most of the launches are just propellant tanks and you have spares!
Today I learned that 60 minutes is still on the air. I don't think I've watched that show since it wrapped up with Andy Rooney. It's like hearing that someone is still publishing books in cuneiform.
This is the absolute core problem of the US investment infrastructure. How do you finance ventures which are going to grow at, say, 30% per year if successful but are never going to turn in to a 1000x unicorn? I haven't the faintest idea. Banks don't do this kind of thing now.
@SGFansUnited No. A studio that would make this bad decision is a studio that would make other bad decisions that would show themselves in the final product (see Rings of Power, Kurtzman-Trek, etc.)
@enzovit0@JiltedValkyrie I'm hard-pressed to think of any "reminaging/reboot" of a beloved old IP that turned out good since the first two seasons of nu-BSG
@AngelaBelcamino Realize the whole principle of 'machine' politics is that a whole lot of people are on the payroll, one way or another, and they all vote for the machine.
@mikematthews01 When I first voted in CA a long time back, I pulled out my ID as a reflex action, because of course one would do so. They got angry. "Put that away!"
@BasilTheGreat Been saying for years, in complete seriousness, that a lot of Englishmen have every reason to start historical societies and get proficient in the bow. It's your heritage and it's very hard to ban trees....
@space_stations@elonmusk@aaronburnett Yeah, the 60's SF trends towards "internal" stories and dystopias were reflections of several things, including social trends, but the Mariner 4 "new Mars" was definitely part of it.
@elonmusk@aaronburnett I was thinking more of his short story where the colonists to Mars blow up their ships, look down in to the canal at their reflection, and say "There are the Martians"
@cb_doge That's an amazing graph because it shows very little sign of leveling off. I don't think we can realistically hit 0% trust, but they seem determined to find out.
