The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. -Jeremiah 8:20
Just finished @bryan_johnson book. DON'T DIE. Review has been posted in the normal place (see my profile).
I'm sure he's a smart guy, and I'm sure he has some real wisdom to impart. But his book was terrible.
New: Read the story of a decade-long propaganda campaign by the Forrest Gump of the internet—a Wikipedia admin who was once Yudkowsky’s strongest soldier—set against the backdrop of the collapse of the semi-unified Internet ethos of the ‘90s and ‘00s

@SteveMichaelsss@ATabarrok I'm familiar with the debate you mention though I haven't had time to watch it. Alex included the summary of the lableak side. If you were to do something similar for the zoonosis side what would it be?
In which my pal @Jeremiah820 tells the story of how we met. What a great way to celebrate nearly twenty years of an enduring friendship!

@ElmerGumtree And it's one of those things where not everyone will fall for it, but the percentage of people who will just goes up. Right now it's 10% of people, mostly the old and the credulous, but after this, does it go to 30 or 40%?
What's the trivial heuristic, or law or procedure that protect us from this sort of thing? Is it just making sure people are always reachable by phone?

@ElmerGumtree So how would that work? Let's say that you can't get ahold of the "victim" that the "kidnappers" have done enough research to know that they're out of touch in Mexico. Even relatively skeptical people are going to be loath to just call their bluff.
This is a controversial claim:
Long Covid actually caused by masks:

Seems like the biggest objection would be why don't professions who wear masks 8 hours a day have problems? Maybe they do?
My monthly book review roundup:

Including reviews of: @waitbutwhy, David Friedman, @EconTalker, and several people who are dead...
@e_considine@waitbutwhy@EconTalker They generally only make you roll if you're doing something difficult. So I'm guessing American would be automatic. Cheddar would be DC 10, but something like Roquefort would be DC 18.
"regular people and bureaucrats following the authorities’ lead—believed that the more extreme the response to the virus, the more wise and virtuous the policy. "
Well put
