Our initial takeaways from DC’s 1st ranked choice voting election:
👍Voters – incl. Mayor Muriel Bowser – told media RCV was easy
🗳️Voting largely went smoothly, w/ some hiccups like a late rush of voters
🔢At-large & Ward 1 DC Council Dem primaries likely to go to RCV counts
🎉🎉🎉The Virginia General Assembly chooses RCV!
A very special thank you to @DelegateCallsen and @ScVanValkenburg for your leadership on this issue. And to @UpVoteVA for your tireless efforts to give Virginians more choice.
Nearly 9 in 10 Americans feel our democracy isn’t working.
The #RankedChoiceVoting Act would bring RCV to congressional elections, giving voters more power and pushing Congress to work better & get things done.

@maustermuhle @jnuzzi08 It’s certainly possible to run RCV counts before all mail ballots are received, and then update as they come in. Cities like SF, Portland, Boulder/Ft Collins CO do this already.
Dems in 5 states used #RankedChoiceVoting in the 2020 presidential primaries. GOP voters in the USVI & Maine did the same in 2024.
With RCV, voters can support their favorite candidate without worrying about "wasted" votes, & parties can pick nominees w/ broad support.
RCV is gaining momentum with both major political parties.

Our focus is on everyday voters. So the real question is simple: how would this system make our voices stronger? ⬇️
#RankedChoiceVoting rewards candidates who campaign positively for support from all voters.
In primaries from NYC to VA, RCV has helped both major parties pick strong nominees w/ broad support.
It can do the same in the 2028 presidential primaries.

An impartial state supreme court is an essential backstop against gerrymandered maps & policies that benefit the wealthiest donors. Current PA laws & rules fuel the partisan divide & allow outsize influence from just a few. Maps matter. Courts matter.
Informed voters matter most.
