@elonmusk@DOGE We know youโre not serious. The federal budget is entitlements + defense. Until you stop whining about the pocket change being thrown to programs you can easily villainize, we know this is just political theatre
@geoffschwartz@DanRubenstein I seem like a minority here, but I miss the pac 12. I like the regional aspect and had been following those schools for 30 years. When you live on the west coast those were also the schools people you know attended, so makes for good banter
@elonmusk The question pre-supposes that you should always optimize for cheap and efficient, but you could easily argue that health insurance (Medicare), retirement benefits (social security), public utilities, to name three, are cheaper and more efficient as government programs
@NikkofromtheBay You havenโt provided any rebuttal to his pretty convincing analysis, just personal attacks. Iโve looked at the actual crime reports and the numbers for the same period do change over time. Time will tell
@NikkofromtheBay I hope crime is down, but according to a pretty detailed analysis by Oakland Report, this data is misleading because the police have not processed all of the filed reports, yet they are comparing to prior year final tallies. Expect the ytd 2024 numbers to go up
@Elmanogonsalves Nice improvement but violent crime index is still up and donโt forget crime has been increasing for 2-3 years now. We have a long way to go still. But some progress is good, perhaps some of the CHP efforts are paying off
@mcuban When are we ending Incredible Hulk face in the NBA? Itโs like the von Dutch hat of celebrations. I think a smile and maybe a little shimmy should suffice
@lenraphaelcpa I would love to see one of these studies. I strongly suspect people are badly misinterpreting what the research is saying and/or the methodology is flawed
@chrisdferreira@SenecaSpeaks21 I think leaders and the decisions they make do matter. I feel like a lot, perhaps not all, of the rise in crime recently is self-inflicted via bad policy. The data suggest oaklands trajectory has not been a straightline over the past 40 years. Loren was the more pragmatic choice
@BootsRiley Nothing fake about the crime wave. We in Oakland live it everyday. Itโs very convenient to cherry pick statistics, but in recent years crime is way up and Oakland is near the top of every crime ranking. Time to wake up and acknowledge facts
@GibbonJim@thomashawk It would be interesting to see the data back to 2010 or 2015. The homicide rate bottomed out around then and it would be easier to see the correlation between arrests and crime
@ryancconnell I think it matters if you grew up in Oregon as at one point all sports teams in the state felt like an underdog and we wanted any local team to do well. But different dynamics these days. UO is now upper tier for fball, while OSU is still the underdog people want to root for
@Elmanogonsalves Crime has many underlying causes and SJ and Oak are not directly comparable. When controlling for numerous factors, it has been found that adding more police is correlated with reducing crime and it is also common sense. The cityโs own analysis has shown it has too few officers
