@Jon_Beckett @jthill @brady_kautz @Cchapin85 I brought in a gentleman (from Nunavuit) when I was teaching my grade 2's about Communities in Canada... the students could not believe that someone would actually live 'way up there'. It was a great experience for all of us.

@jthill @sfriesen @barbbrown What a precious experience for the students. I believe it is essential to utilize experts and community member.. our students deserve that. There is so much to be learned, more than we will ever be able to teach our kiddos.

@BadlandsTeacher @Jon_Beckett Agreed! We need to ensure our students are fully informed about the 'special guest' and the purpose of their visit. I would encourage my students to prepare question ahead of time in hope of creating some fluidity.

@Jon_Beckett Valid. Wouldn't it be ideal if we could screen the 'experts' before hand? I have experienced said 'experts' go in directions that only confused our students and have been nothing but a waste of time.. or maybe a teachable moment?

@CathySandul A3: Stimulate their intrinsic curiosity. We don't always have to tell our students what is going to happen next or how their learning will unfold. Plan a week of strategic build-up, share clues, pictures and information.. let them get excited for their learning. #dtk12
