I see that govt is once again spreading that old myth "This government has secured £104 billion of private sector investment to improve our water infrastructure nationwide."

Patently, blatantly and demonstrably untrue.

1. Water companies submitted their draft business plans to @Ofwat 9 MONTHS BEFORE THE ELECTION on 2nd Oct 2023.

It was those business plans that included £96 billion of so called investment. It was then for Ofwat to scrutinise, review and approved the final versions of those plans. It was that review process which borough the total spend up to £104 billion. Nothing whatsoever to do with govt.

2. Nor is there any "private sector investment" it's coming straight out of your pocket, that's why water bills have gone up on average by 36% this year. Once again nothing whatsoever to do with govt.

No doubt ministers will be keen to set the record straight.

1. "We have blocked unfair multi-million pound bonuses for water executives." Which was a waste of time as WCs simply doubled CEO's salaries.

2. "passed new laws so bosses can face up to two years in prison for sewage offences". Blatantly untrue. There is no such thing as "sewage offences", the only, and ONLY offence is "impeding [an] investigation", not dumping humongous amounts of sewage, not ripping off your customers, only, and only, "impeding [an] investigation".

3. "A record 81 criminal investigations into water companies have been launched in England since the election." Blatantly untrue. All of that relates to an @EnvAgency investigation which began on the 18th Nov 2021 2 years and 7 months BEFORE THE ELECTION.

4 "This will cut sewage pollution in half by 2030 as a major staging post towards cleaning up our rivers". Which isn't nearly as good as the target announced by @Ofwat just over 1 year ago. Ho hum.

But hey, at least there's no nonsense about £104bn private sector investment or £100bn to nationalise the water industry so I suppose it is kind of progress.

Meanwhile those involved, @SouthernWater, @thameswater, @sewateruk and @YorkshireWater between them leak approx 1,055 BILLION litres of water EACH AND EVERY DAY from their badly maintained, underinvested, cracked old network of pipes. Ho hum.
