You might be wondering what you are looking at.

These are Aramaic Bible manuscripts which depict icons. Nothing out of the ordinary, right?

Well…. They are from the first century ad. These are the earliest known Christian icons and they are so old that most, if not ALL, the apostles were alive when these were made.

Iconography IS Biblical Christianity. It IS Apostolic Christianity. It IS an indicator of the ONE, CATHOLIC, and APOSTOLIC CHURH that JESUS CHRIST founded.

Wrong assumption, and one of your commenters also has it wrong - but it’s not surprising because it comes from a very recently created idea by Protestants of salvation and what Christ actually did on the cross.

God did not need to satisfy His own anger and come into this world so that He could punish Himself (effectively “breaking” the Trinity.)

The key thing people fail to see and understand is that Jesus was forgiving people their sins BEFORE the cross - with Jesus commonly telling people: “your sins have been forgiven you, go and sin no more.” He didn’t need the cross to forgive sins.

The whole point of God coming into this world (bring fully man and fully God) was to defeat DEATH by His death, to defeat the demons, and to pave the way for us to have communion with God.

@IconInInk As an Orthodox iconographer, I recommend you find a blessed teacher to continue learning. At my church, we place the icon on the altar for a Sunday liturgy, (some churches for 40). Our priest blesses with it holy water and prayers. Then we venerate it in our icon corner at home.

Bill Maher’s audience groans after he informs them the University of Michigan is DOING AWAY with grades because “sometimes a kid gets a bad grade and it makes them sad.”

The university says the reason for this is to “curb the mental health crisis unfolding among college-aged individuals.”

One thing I've realised is that following God doesn't always make life easier... sometimes it makes you walk a narrower road. Not because suffering automatically means you're more spiritual, but because obedience often costs something. And while the world may celebrate comfort, status, and self, God is usually far more focused on forming character, trust, and dependence on Him. Maybe that's why some of the strongest people spiritually are often the ones who've walked through the deepest refining.
