@WilliamMaloneIV@NickNelsonMN Not saying there is no value, but to me a 40-man spot is pretty marginal. Plenty of people on it right now I’d be happy to cut for Correa.
I guess in the end you and I just have a pretty different view of what Correa has left in the tank for the next few years. Fair enough!
@WilliamMaloneIV@NickNelsonMN To me that attitude would make sense if the twins went and spent that ~$20M.
Seems like a freak injury, not even on his bad ankle.
From a $$/win POV he still might or might not end up being worth that $20M/year, but I would rather have him than some extra $$ for the Polads.
@WilliamMaloneIV@NickNelsonMN Not sure I get what your core point is here. Does it just boil down to you think that keeping Correa was not worth the ~$60M of salary relief the twins got, because he is injury prone/bad?
So moving him was a “good trade”?
@WilliamMaloneIV@NickNelsonMN Sure. Certainly not expecting him to keep up a 6 WAR pace. Seems like most projections view him as an above average to very good but not great player.
@WilliamMaloneIV@NickNelsonMN Not totally sure I follow but here is information on sample size significance.
The more general point is that Correa is that there are a lot of pretty obvious reasons people view Correa as different than Vazquez.

@NickNelsonMN I get that outlook, but on the other hand a potential WBC final has a pretty high likelihood to be more meaningful than any game he pitches for the twins this year.
@_jameshatfield_@byHeatherLong Markets went up much more than inflation. So if you had your savings invested they should have much more purchasing power than when you made the investment.
@_jameshatfield_@byHeatherLong But I don’t think anyone is putting $1M under the mattress. Hopefully if you have that kind of savings you are investing it and it should be worth much more now.
@ATCNY@Beat_Shift_Pod@RealJRAnderson What is up with Adael Amador’s season? Supposed to have a good hit tool, but has a sub .200 BABIP. Bad luck or just weak contact?
@rossjensen@BilLDoZeR33 Such a strange season for him. Walking as much as he strikes out but a .176 BABIP and no power at all. Is it all just super weak contact?
@ianpsherman@AaronGleeman@GleemanAndGeek $19M of operating income for was last year. Meaning that they made that profit with their ~$160M 2023 payroll.
And I don’t think the Polads have an issue with access to liquid capital…
@Quaker2001@Derek_Herron@JeffPassan@MLB I agree with that. The CBT already is a (very) soft cap.
Really a huge miss by the MLBPA to allow it without getting any floor at the same time.
@Derek_Herron@JeffPassan@MLB I mean, in the past 10 years we’ve had 9 different WS champs, so of course more than 5 teams can compete.
That said, I’d be happy for a stricter salary cap & floor.
@tntboyz@McFeely_Inforum Oh sure if you want to make the argument that the late 80s/early 90s twins were better than the Mauer era Twins, I agree. But to me those are team achievements, not individual. Would you also rank Hrbek above Killebrew/Carew?
Hrbek hit .150 in his playoff career.
@tntboyz@McFeely_Inforum Totally fair to like Hrbek better. My dad actually played high school baseball with him at Kennedy in the 70s.
But statistically it’s pretty tough to make the case that he had a better individual career than Mauer.
Mauer actually played more games dispute spending 10 years at C
@Matt_Stike@MNTwinsZealot In fairness, no catchers reach those milestones. Offensively, Mauer is right up there with the best hitting catchers of all time.
Bench (catcher GOAT) actually has fewer hits, BB, 2B, a lower Avg, OBP, & OPS than Mauer does (to be clear not saying Mauer > Bench).
