@jeffr0 Because you're competing. Because "the most feature-rich" is one product strategy amongst many, which comes with implications on cost and reach and relevance. Because audiences aren't perfectly informed. Because "telling as many people as you can" requires strategies and budgets.
So this is why Google came out with that billions of clicks from AI features - the NY Times was working on a piece named "Google Is Building an A.I. Fence Around the Internet It Once Championed" https://t.co/TYzKXC1hTw
It seems like ChatGPT was heavily reliant on Google's search results for web retrieval up until a few months ago, and now it looks like OpenAI is leaning on Bing results more heavily (again), while building its own cache/index.
The timing makes sense: Google sued SerpApi in December, the scraping company that reportedly supplied OpenAI with Google SERP data after Google declined to give them direct index access. Between that lawsuit, Google's 'SearchGuard' anti-scraping crackdown, and OpenAI building its own index, it makes sense that OpenAI would try to decouple from Google right now.
There's also some direct evidence for this: a new "bing" result_source value started showing up in ChatGPT's network traffic in late June, rolling out to some accounts but not others (h/t @DavidKonitzny and @suganthan, who have been digging into this).
Are others seeing similar things in their data? Does anyone know more about this? And if so, can we chat? 😇
Some of the world’s most successful companies are zombies. They're already dead.
They're unable to abandon the old model, unable to build the next one, and surviving only because the market hasn't finished looting the corpse yet.

Cloudflare Research is building a global consensus service called Meerkat that uses a new consensus algorithm called QuePaxa. Find out more: https://t.co/UyIv5WN0Fb
I asked Fable to write a discord scraper for a small task, and when I told it "okay let's fill in my auth token" it said "sure thing boss I'll go extract it from your browser cookies" and I was all "wait wait stop what I didn't mean that".
Workers Cache — Your Cloudflare Worker now has its own tiered cache in front of it:
https://t.co/6rAJN8e71s
Workers Cache is a programmable tiered cache between Workers — even between code running in the same Worker
we’ve seen pretty much every approach to caching over the years from our customers, and Workers Cache is the direct result of everything we’ve learned
it takes all the workarounds and clever hacks we’ve seen to make sites and APIs fast, and simplifies them down to writing JavaScript and returning Cache-Control headers
you can use for so much — for us this is like shipping 12 different things on the same day
first up — you can use it to place your app near your database, cache its responses, and run code in front close to users:
We are launching Workers Cache, a regionally tiered cache that sits directly in front of your Worker entrypoints. Infinitely composable, configured via standard HTTP headers. https://t.co/eBbxHIgUBA
The BBC had a brilliant technology programme called Click which, with a few tweaks, they could've made into a primetime hit. Instead they hid it away on the news channel and then quietly cancelled it. Bonkers decision
