USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
Reading signed Kevin Doyle & Shane Long and they:
👉 Cost just £78k
👉 Made 397 appearances
👉 Scored 112 goals
👉 Won the Championship with 106pts
👉 Sold for £11m+
The true best bargain in Championship history.

▶️ Here's what happened when VAR checked if Hearts should have been awarded a penalty against Motherwell.
At 6pm on @SkyFootball watch Scottish Football VAR Review to hear what the SFA's head of refereeing Willie Collum made of it 📺
To have a stand at Wembley named after me is something I never could have imagined and feels incredibly emotional. What happened outside Luton that day was instinct. Dave needed help and I just did what I hoped anyone else would do in that moment. Knowing that story is now being used to encourage more people to learn CPR is hugely important to me because it shows that ordinary people really can save lives. Football brings communities together like nothing else and if the Every Minute Matters campaign inspires even one more person to step forward confidently in an emergency, then it will have made a real difference.
Once again, humbled to have been involved in the #EveryMinuteMatters campaign. The @the_bhf and @skybet have worked so hard on this, and are changing lives.
The statistics are still terrifying less than 1 in 10 people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest, but immediate CPR can more than double a persons survival chances. Every minute without CPR and early defibrillation reduces the person’s chance of survival by 10%. So every minute really does matter.
Incredible to meet the others involved and hear their stories - and a big thank you to Tom Lockyer for being a brilliant ambassador as always. Please take a look on the British Heart Foundation website, locate the RevivR tool and take 15 minutes to learn CPR at home. You might just save a life.
Surreal to see my name on the stand at the home of football. Even more so to be the only female on the entire planet to be able to say that! ❤️
