Interesting that in South London all the Green Leaders are people who were elected as Labour councillors in 2022.
It makes me wonder if the Greens simply didnโt flourish their own talent.
Remember when Lambeth Labour suspended @Martin_Abrams for defying the whip on Gaza?
Heโs just been elected Leader of Lambeth Councilโฆ.for the Greens.
Extraordinary.
@cambs_socialist A failure by them. In Cambridgeshire the LDs have always been very reasonable, even working with greens at county level. In London, last night we saw Lambeth Greens get the leader in another traffic light council.
Camb City Greensโ failure to achieve a deal when others didnโt.
A great way to set up a Chinese-like social credit system, say itโs only for criminals and later expand to everyone. Canโt buy an extra drink! Bad for NHS.
While a perfect way to push criminals into arms of gangs who can give cash to feed addictions.
Evidence-based whoโฆ.
๐จ NEW: The Tories have pledged to give criminals on benefits payment cards which block purchases on alcohol and gambling
They would also restrict cash withdrawals and bank transfers
@Alishacmlewis@AaronBastani@gemlpaterson From my side, thinking in politics Iโve found it easier to make change in bigger groups, say region-wide, than local.
So taking that to planning matters, think is more efficient to push for law changes & mayoral vetoes than to fight 50+ planning applications as small/lone voice.
@Alishacmlewis@AaronBastani@gemlpaterson Iโd also assume most young people canโt afford to live in soho, and if they can they probably have jobs that live little time to spare to more work instead of an evening off or a social call.
And thereโs of course, ageism, which makes it hard to give up time to be shut down.
I grew up in Southwark and it remains the home of relatives. Iโve helped families deal with the council, primarily navigating housing issues.
After failures and neglect from Labour, itโs great to see a fresh team that will fight for residents and stand up to Starmer & Sadiq.
Southwark Green Party and Southwark Liberal Democrats have formed a Joint Administration to run Southwark Council.
Tonightโs Annual Council Assembly (Thursday 28 May) elected Councillor James McAsh, leader of Southwark Green Party, Leader of the Council.
Councillor Victor Chamberlain, leader of Southwark Liberal Democrats, is Deputy Council Leader.

@coyleneil Labour has run Southwark for years and the housing needs and safety of local people have only fallen.
I had to help someone after they were about to be wrongly evicted under the Labour-run council.
You have voted in government to cut welfare support and Londonโs funding.
@ThatGarthGuy@CarlDoran13 Iโve always been of the view that putting red tape against Sanchez made it extreme on one side and less sustainable, as fighting with just one party for same space.
They couldโve been centrist and then governed many communities and the country if they had been more bipartisan.
@ThatGarthGuy@CarlDoran13 My point on Cs was about being drunk in success that they thought they were doing all well and ignored the red flags and alarm bells, to the point to when it was too late and that fragility broke.
@ThatGarthGuy@CarlDoran13 I do think small parties often get drunk in success and miss the vulnerabilities of โlost potentialโ and fragility of wins. Cs peak and got wiped out in a matter of months.
@ThatGarthGuy@CarlDoran13 Polls also hides vote inefficiencies, the green vote is too concentrated atm. They did very well in certain areas but failed to realise expectations in others, donโt forget that Labour and the Alliance once had a quite similar vote share but the seat disparity was of 3-figures.
@ThatGarthGuy@CarlDoran13 Well not really cos winning 5 extra is not the same as winning 27 extra.
As I said โrarelyโ, if one wants to gamble on Farage thatโs up to them. In Spain Podemos tried that, they lost ground and the far right shot up considerably, so the lost even more of the negotiation power.
@ThatGarthGuy@CarlDoran13 Iโm not a Labourite so not gonna defend that lol, but the truth if every green were Labour then the tories would not be in power. If voting green means putting tories or farage in power they have an issue.
Smaller parties rarely able to win if rerun national election.
