BREAKING: 4TH JUMMA since the Muslim community in the city of Axum is banned from praying in Jemma (group).
The Muslim community of Axum city, Tigray faces countless prosecutions, religious discrimination, and systematic harassment by the local administration and extremist Orthodox priests and followers.
Our voices are being silenced through:
• Banning of hijab in schools
• Restrictions on Jema’a prayers
• Denial of permission to build mosques
• Severe shortage of Muslim burial places
• Daily intimidation, threats, and harassment
Religious freedom is a fundamental human right.
The people of Axum deserve dignity, equality, peace, and protection from discrimination.

If we condemn the genocidal role of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church during the #TigrayGenocide , we must also promptly oppose the Tigrayan Orthodox Synod. Any religious institution that provides a platform for killers and corrupt leaders must be condemned unequivocally. 1/2

Rowena (name changed to protect her identity) is 34 years old and was born in Hintalo, #Tigray. Before the war she was a trader.
On 23 February 2021 her life changed forever; “I was preparing my stuff to flee, but they came into my house and raped me,” she recalled.

Day 1738 of the #TigrayGenocide:
Several human rights reports have flagged the grave and serious nature of sexual crimes in #Tigray during the war. But international bodies were consistently stonewalled in their efforts to investigate by the #Ethiopian gov't.

Back to #Tigray through time. May 2024.
Tigray’s war, considered the bloodiest of the 21st century, left 2.75 million people internally displaced and more than 875,000 refugees in neighbouring countries such as Sudan. That country received 50,000 Ethiopians.

"Son of Eritrea, we are brave,” the note reads. “We have committed ourselves to this, and we will continue doing it. We will make Tigrayan females infertile.

Truly awful. Truly wicked. Where's the justice? Tens of thousands of Tigrayan women brutally assaulted by Ethiopian & Eritrean soldiers: gang-rape, rusted screws, metal spikes & plastic rubbish:horrific sexual violence against Tigray’s women @Lord_Collins

🛑 This is direct and urgent appeal from her family.
#ካብ_ስድራ_ዶክተር_ማህሌት 🛑
We, the family of Dr. Mahelet Guush, strongly and urgently demand her immediate release. Dr. Mahelet is a respected physician, a mother to a young child, and a voice for her colleagues in the Ethiopian healthcare system. She is not affiliated with any political group, has committed no crime, and poses no threat to the government or national security.
Her detention is not only unjust—it is a violation of her basic human rights and a direct harm to her innocent child who desperately needs her. We call on the Government of Ethiopia and all responsible authorities to release her without delay.

I return to the story of Azmera and Maeza again and again. Months pass and I keep scrolling through the folder of photos, listening to the interview as if I wish it wasn’t real, as if I wish the speech was just the script of a horror movie.
