Damn I'm shook how many users are planning on joining. I'm curious to see how it will compare or compete with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and what role it'll take on..

@AndrewLongBeach I love this! It allows us another avenue as viewers to support and patron certain creators that we like, that's not through a third party app or websites.
@Evancainx Saying that they are different from Facebook doesn't make them any better. But I agree, it is a hard question to answer on how to completely remove the detrimental effects of social media.
@mrbvirgo I'm not particular about anything yet, but I think transmuting what's already on social media to a virtual reality equivalent would be interesting.
@AndrewLongBeach That's awesome! I actually like this feature. Having effects and games added during live video chats is something rarely done and I think would add some fun to connecting with people online.
@J104Sarah It's stupid how people's priorities are just because of technology and social media. Like how we record situations instead of being the person to help, isn't something ethically wrong with that?
@mrbvirgo Interesting, I didn't know Trump was making his own social media site lol. I wonder how many users will actually use it, or if it will only be a selective conservative few.
@Sarahturneyy I think it's a great use for regular hangouts with friends, such as Facetime or Discord, etc. but I agree how it could be used if people use it to spread misinformation.
The idea is to remove all quantifiable metrics such as likes, follows on social media for regular user accounts, but to make it visible for business accounts. However, I still think there is more to it that makes social media mentally harmful.

Social media is addictive, just like a drug or tobacco. It also runs our economy, so we can't get away from it, either. With a threat to democracy, I think there should be some form of regulations on the information social media provides.

@AndrewLongBeach I agree, using ads is a compromise we as users have to do in order to use the app for free. However, finding the right balance between too much and too little may be difficult. I do like the option of allowing creators to get paid through the ads, though.
@Nabarkorin Interesting read. Reminds me of when people turn to media (TV, Phones, video games) instead of conversing with the people you are in the same room with. It is a problem I see with my own family and younger kids these days.. "Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity."
@vanityr1231 Well, social media companies are in it for the revenue. I do wish the algorithms were more curated for the mental health of society, though.. as they do hold some responsibility for influence. Since a lot of people use it, I think it would have a drastic impact on teens today.
@jakejour I completely agree. People these days are just so hungry for attention that they'll do anything for it.. It goes to show the detrimental effects of social media.
Our clicks, watchtime, and engagement with videos plays a big role in deciding our YouTube algorithm.. I should be more conscious of what I engage with on YouTube!

@Sarahturneyy I'm not too upset about it either. I think the argument is that even though more trustworthy sources and news on social media get less engagement, it should not mean that Facebook should introduce more fake news in their algorithm in order to improve their engagement.
@mrbvirgo While they both offer forms of escape and a hit of gratification, I think social media addiction is bad for us mentally but alcohol addiction is bad for us physically.
@J104Sarah What is the difference between foreign social media apps and social media apps from their country? If the goal is to combat cyberbullying, it will still exist no matter what app they use..
