@OppositeMario@GameChap did you know that it is possible to be opposed to a specific business practice while still recognizing the value that the company provides?
@OppositeMario@GameChap and i said that they were still using the services of large companies.
it’s not about steam in particular, it’s about where customers are. if it was equally effective to self-host your own game and set up your own payment processing, every game dev would do it
@OppositeMario@GameChap no, i was responding to your argument that indie games can be made cheaply, so large corporations aren’t needed. what i’m saying is that those corporations provide access to the widest possible audience. right now, for PC games, that’s steam
@OppositeMario@GameChap myst was sold in retail stores, and i would expect that a large portion of their sales would have been in stores operated by large companies
@OppositeMario@GameChap yes it could have (and is) sold elsewhere. i'm just saying that access to the widest possible audience likely contributed significantly to its success

@wtphrack@paulg I try to do that with the first few lines, but the rest of it is a general description of my app's features. Maybe someone who is hooked by the first few lines might be more likely to read the rest if there are bullet points to follow, as opposed to paragraphs.
