I'm excited to announce two major career updates. First, this morning, I successfully defended my dissertation. Second, I have accepted a Lecturer Position at Goucher College starting in the Fall!

Here's a treat for state politics and policy researchers. Ethan Dee and I published a dataset in Nature: Scientific Data with 1.36 million state legislative bills since ~2009 coded by 28 policy areas. We used a machine learning model built off open source components.
One of the most common reactions I get when I tell people that I’m a political scientist is...
“It must be an exciting time to be a political scientist.”
I could stand for less excitement tbh.
It's terrifying to hear about what happened at FSU. The attack happened in places that I frequented during my time there. I'm lucky to be able to say that friends and colleagues there are okay. At what point will policymakers decide that action needs to be taken?
Got to share a little about the 2024 Election Exit Poll Project on the Active Learning in Political Science blog. This has been a great learning experience for the students. Hoping to expand this moving forward!
Great support from the @McCourtneyInst at Penn State

Join us and @lioncaucus on Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the HUB Lion's Lair to meet state senators Chris Dush and Wayne Langerholc Jr. and state rep. Paul Takac. This will be an opportunity to talk informally with legislators and learn about civic engagement opportunities.
Under the direction @JustinCrofoot, 15 Penn State students spent Election Day conducting exit polling across Centre County. They asked about voting decisions, issues important to voters, attitudes toward democracy, and more. Results to come soon!
