@emshhnLove Yeah at the end of the day, no matter the methods if you persevere and work hard, you'll get there. But still people have a desire to do things "optimally" which ironically often does more harm than good.
@karka_twei Be it native Japanese or fellow foreigner otaku I do believe those kinds of pro-social relationships are very nice and something that's severely lacking in this age of SNS and isolation
@karka_twei There is a similar idea in the west too! "Through dick, unity!"
And I do agree a lot of western folk do give up too easily... I've gotten JP only works by telling friends "keep an eye out and grab it while you're there" I'll pay you back and treat you to drinks for the effort!
If this whole flame war made anyone wanna study Japanese, learning it has never been easier

For kanji use anki with the Kaishi deck
For your dictionary use yomitan
For getting the moonrunes use yomininja
For grammar good luck I guess tae kim or cure dolly
@emshhnLove For the record, I'm not endorsing piracy and I bought it properly on steam! I just got a little excited seeing manosaba and Japanese learning mentioned in the same post... sorry if this comes of as rude
@emshhnLove Small world! I'm studying Japanese and Manosaba is the first work I'm fully reading in Japanese. Japanese learning is tough... and wherever you go there are people going "You need to do it in X way" but also tons of people going "Anyone who does X is stupid! Y is the way to go!"

Lightening up the recent piracy debates...
Here are my favorite pirate songs!
I wonder how well acquainted with sea shanties the Japanese are
I think it's a wonderful genre
You should give it a chance!

@sakaimii Yeah that's definitely super rude. It's honestly kind of shocking to hear that's an actual thing. Even in the most pro-piracy countries it ought be common sense to not do that
@7_umo0@sameashark Yeah that's true. I've been learning Japanese and it has a lot more ways to express one's personality compared to English. It's really nice in a way.
@sameashark Just a straightforward translation. People who like Japanese works like them as they are, they don't want some butchered version rewritten by some out of touch sensitivity consultant in California. It's a total waste of money and is more likely to hurt sales than help them.
@ititakaRe9 There's still the threat of them losing their job if the game does poorly but if the game is a hit the ones getting the money aren't the devs, but the suits. That's part of why the western mindset is so different, people feel like they're paying evil suits rather than the devs
@ititakaRe9 I've always been curious, how much do you guys actually get from sales? In the west, esp in large companies the devs get little to nothing from sales. The majority of the money we pay for a game goes to businessmen that didn't work on the game and are often shady (1/2)
@itau2000 Customers don't actually want that. People calling for it are a vocal minority that's just in it for politics and won't even purchase the actual game. When you look at reviews from actual customers, the game being butchered like that is almost universally seen as a bad thing
@koMeat717 Overseas companies don't support creators. If the game the creator made sells well the creator get basically nothing from it. In the end the people we end up supporting are greedy, shady shareholders that would gladly sell us out for a singular dollar
